PSP X8 Will no longer open

Post by kdehaan »

Please help, I'm really stumped on this one. I have been using PSP X8 on my laptop running Windows 10 for several months now. I have not had a single problem with it until yesturday. Now, I can't open the program at all. I've tried opining using the shortcut, from the start menu, going through programs, and even tried from a photo using open with___. I just cant figure out what changed. It doesnt appear that windows did an update either. I checked. Any ideas?
I ordered the program and downloaded through Corel, it says my download link is no longer active, so I could'nt uninstall and then re-install. I'm hoping it's something silly that i just had a moment. :D
Thank you for your time,
Kelly

Have you tried resetting it to its original state? Keep the Shift key pressed while clicking the icon to open the program.

Perhaps your problem will also remind you to store a copy of the installation package on another drive or DVD after you originally download it. I thought most people do that as a matter of course...

Is PSP still running in the background? Check your task manager to see if it's still listed in the processes. PSP only allows 1 instance to be opened at a time, if it doesn't properly shut down it won't run.

Ctrl + Shift + Esc is a handy shortcut to open the task manager to check. It's the only thing I can think of.

Hi, Thank you for such quick replies. So,
Ken, I did try holding shift earlier with no luck. And, yes you are correct. I was going to get to that and just plain forgot. Well? I guess it caught up with me. Shamed....
Levi, I had not even thought to check there. Upon checking, I found that It was running in the background in task manager.
After ending the task, I tried to open again without any luck.
I have been using Paintshop since X5. I love this product. I think this is the very first issue I've ever had. Well, If you think of anything else, I'm all ears.
Thanks again,

Did you try the Shift+ trick now that you have actually closed the version running behind the scenes?

Yes, first try Ken's suggestion. Make sure PSP is not running in the background and attempt a reset of the workspace.

If that doesn't work try deleting the database file. It's possible PSP is attempting to start up the cataloging process but due to an error in the image catalog database it can't start properly.

1) Open the Windows Run command. (Windows key + R)

2) type "appdata" and hit enter this should open up the appdata folder

3) Open the Local folder

4) Open Corel PaintShop Pro folder

5) Open Database folder

6) Rename the ImageDB.db file to ImageDB.old

Then start PSP. It will make a brand new database. See if that works for you.
