Scan front and back

Post by Spokanese »

I would like to learn how to scan the front and back of a snapshot and reassemble them as a single jpeg with both of them side by side as one picture.

I have already successfully scanned them into two separate jpegs.

Thanks so much.

Of course, you do mean the BACKGROUND and then the FOREGROUND? Yes?

However, if you have significant information on the back you may want to show that beside the snapshot. I take this to question to mean, how do you take two jpgs and combine into one image.

- Open both images in edit. I usually use tabbed view so I can easily keep track of each image.
- Select the snapshot and promote the background layer.
- In the menu bar select Image/canvas size. Original dimensions are shown at the top of the box. For the new size enter the horizontal dimension as double the original and the vertical dimension the same as the original. Select place left and hit OK. This places the two images side-by-side but you could do it one above the other, of course.
- Now select the second image, the reverse side, and from the menu select edit/copy.
- Select the first image and edit/paste as new layer.
- Select Object/Align/Right.

That's it. You have an image with two layers, one the obverse, the other reverse, side by side. Save the product.

Thanks, Mark,

Here's what I came up with in answer to my own question:

1) scan and create two cropped images (of the front and back of the photo).

2) open front image and <Select>, <All>

3) double the width of the 'Canvas Size'

4) hit Selection icon on the left and then click & drag selection to far left.

5) go to image of the back of the photo and <Select>, <All>, then <Copy>

6) <Past as New Selection> onto the image of the front and drop it on the far right.

7) <Save As> and I'm done.

Both methods work but that's the one I stumbled on myself.

Thanks again.
