I downloaded and installed the service pack a few days back, as soon as I used it to run perfectly clear plugin, the program stopped running and had to close. eventually I had to reinstall psp.
Today it advised me of the update , I allowed it and here we are again. program stopped and needs to close.

X8 SP1 decided to install today as soon as I opened PSP. I have updates set NOT to auto update so I can watch what happens with patches etc before I install them. (I have had bad experiences in the past with patches/updates). Upon checking my system I have found the Corel Update Helper installed .... I did not give permission for this !!!.

So, now with the "update" ... preferences were changed, in particular, workspace setup... grrrrr .... fixed that. OK .... have work to finish up 1 image before I go out. Now I can't feather a selected area after removing the background. I have tried every setting I can think of. Have another machine still running WIN8.1 with PSP X5 .... not a problem finishing the work on that system ....

So what else has the "service pack" broken/updated ?
File tree under "File" .... bottom of the table disappears and changes as I mouse over ... can't do screen cap as it changes ....

I'm still trying to find if anything else has been "updated"

Thanks Corel

Hi Karebai, we are sorry to hear so many issues that you met after updating SP1. It should not happen as it is and we are expecting to figure them up with you together ASAP. If you do not mind, would you mind to describe each issue you mentioned in detail? Like "reproduce step", "reproduce rate"...etc. Current description you wrote in the forum is too rough and we cannot duplicate them from our side correctly. If you can take your time to share more information with us, it will be great!!

Cheers

Thank you Joseph, I hope so - as this is happening on my laptop here are some system, specs -
Windows 10 Professional (x64) (build 10586)
HP 650 Notebook PC
2.50 gig Intel Core i3-3120M
Hewlett-Packard 1858 65.33
498.73 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 [Display adapter]
Generic PnP Monitor (15.3"vis)
PSP X8 18.1.0.67 (32 & 64 bit versions installed)

Workspace - original setup was
1. open in edit mode
2. workspace colour medium grey
3. background colour dark grey

After service pack install
1. opened in manage mode
2. workspace colour dark grey
3. background colour black

Feathering issue -
Load image, removed background (with eraser tool), saving periodically as I worked. When I finshed removing background
- select magic wand - settings replace,colour, tolerance = 20, contiguous checked, feather 2
then I select the areas for feathering, holding shift key to multi select areas.
hit delete key 2,3,4,5,6, times ... nothing happens - no feathering
(When I do exactly the same actions in X5 on my desktop, feathering occurs as it has done in every version of PSP that I have had since ver 7.

File tree movement is hard to capture as it changes as I mouse over the options. I have tried and these are what I got
menu1.png
this is when I use the "File" menu
menu2.png
menu2.png (9.67 KiB) Viewed 11206 times
whenI use the mouse to try to select Preferences or Workspace, the menu changes, the option names "move" from preferences to workspace, and the exit option half appears instead of the "down" arrow.

Since Corel had me install SP1 again and I again had to uninstall and reinstall to get PSP x8 working again. Before I started the reinstall I took a couple more screen shots showing how SP1 on my system causes the software to be unusable...note all the missing small text in each screen even the splash screen. And after reinstall it works just fine without SP1 installed. Hope they get this fixed and soon.

Reply from Corel with instructions to
1, reset psp to default...........no difference
2. repair psp......................not available
3. Reinstall psp...................no difference

Then

Close psp and download spi from link provide and install.

Message i got was update of psp is not required at this time.

It was the adding of sp1 that screwed it up in the first place, everything worked fine up till then so obviously it has corrupted it and even the cleanup tool cannot fix it,
I think I need an ORIGINAL pre sp1 download of X8 or a refund;)
.
Now waiting for another suggestion. n the meantime I am using X6

)ut of curiosity I have been checking in on this thread and I can understand the frustration caused to those who have issues with programs and updates. What surprises me is why so many people have installed SP1 with no issues whatsoever but a few seem to have issues. And it's not like it's the same issue, given that one issue Pathfinder has is the lack of the info usually shown on the splash screen (plus other issues) and not everybody with patch issues has that peculiar one.

I'm wondering if some of the issues with the patch might be a result of how some might have installed it. For example, was it installed while the program was still running? Could their AV have caused a hiccup with part of the installation? Was some other program running (even in the background) that might have been sharing a common file (dll, etc.) required for the installation to complete cleanly? The point being that when an installation (program or patch) works for most people on different operating systems but causes issues for a few (again with different operating systems) AND those issues are not the same for each of those with issues, it at least seems at first glance that it must be system specific to a large extent (which can include installation procedure). Otherwise I'd expect basically the same issues for everyone who's having issues. Just a thought.

I should add that I had no trouble installing the patch and X8 with the patch works fine. I downloaded it myself and then did the install. It was not done through Update or auto-update.

I was also thinking the same joeB. Seems odd that I along with very few others have had problems. As I stated in my original post, SP1 installed all by itself as soon as I opened the program. Normally I download and install myself, making sure that AV etc are closed down while I install. I am hestitant to uninstall/reinstall/clean etc at the moment as maybe there is something else i can do first. I am waiting to see what comes through.

I have tried both ways SP1 from within the program and SP1 from the link Corel provided, no AV running during install no other programs running.

SP1 installed fine on my laptop but not on my desktop, and on the desktop I get the same result each and every time SP1 is installed, I dont care about the text missing from the splash screen the fact the the drop down menus no longer have any text is the real issue.

There is nothing special about my machine and I have never had any issues installing software on it.

The fact that tech support provided instructions about doing a repair which is an option that is not offered when following there directions is quite concerning.

I can see that the results you got as your last statement says can be quite concerning.

However, your experience just adds evidence to what I was thinking. You had no problems on one computer (and most people have no problems on any computer) but did on your desktop. So, for the most part, and for most people, and for most computers, it installs as it should. The continuing issues you are having with the desktop could simply be that the first install did NOT go well and whatever went kablooey has remained kablooey as far as SP1 is concerned, which might make it not be able to install now. It's just a thought.

And it could go back further than that. For example, did you have any issues with X8 before the install? Could there be something (as mentioned in my previous post) about the original X8 install that allowed the install to work but still might have left a glitch that makes SP! unable to install properly? Its for reasons like that and so many other variables that make these issues that have all of the aspects of being system specific so notoriously difficult to troubleshoot, I'm afraid.

I will point out that without the plugin, x8 with sp1 works as it should, however, perfectly clear worked fine on the original x8 and x6 which it was bundled with, all imported scripts also work as they should.
Sp1 was added both automatically and on a separate install, X8 has been deleted using a cleanup tool and a fresh install performed.
When I attempted to install the original version that worked, it came up as the new version, therefore I conclude that sp1 leaves traces that cannot be removed by the cleanup tool.

Good thought. Using a Restore Point prior to its first installation would be helpful to try, but most people who have issues likely have made other changes since then that would make that either impossible (no such point now exists) or very inconvenient to do.

Upon reflection, I downloaded X8 rather than installed from a disk, the original download files housed at Corel's servers have since been replaced with the updated version so whichever link in my download files are clicked, the version I receive is the same.
In fairness, Corel support have tried to help yet after several attempts, clearing temp files, no remedy was found,

I contacted Athentech explaining the issue. They suggested uninstalling Perfectly Clear from control panel and download from their website. This I did and installed, IT WORKED, however it is a trial version and requires a purchase which is way out of my budget.

As my version worked prior to update, at least it has identified that there is a conflict with the X8 update and the perfectly clear version supplied with X6

registry etc it is clear that there is an issue between the plugin and X8 new.
Fortunately my X6 runs everything fine including the 32 bit KPT collection.

That's because the version of Perfectly Clear that comes with PSP is not the full version. It does most of what the full version does but is missing a few filters. If I recall correctly that includes some stuff to do with Beautify. You need to be able to install the version that came free with PSP, not the one from their site.
