Update on PSP X8.1.
I had installed PSP X8.1 on 3 Toshiba laptops with Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
No problems in installation or running the programs.

Have a desktop computer with 4 x 1 Tb hard drives running Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. I only have to switch a data cable to change to the different systems.
I have installed PSP X8.1 on all drives except the XP one (which is not supported by PSP X8) and again have none of the problems that others have experienced.
So wondering if those problems are system specific or some background programs are interfering, or they have downloaded a corrupt version.
So that is 6 installations (purchased 2 copies of PSP X8) with no problems with text disappearing etc. The desktop has an Intel i5 processor at 2.67 Ghz, and with the three systems W7, W8.1, and W10 no problems with windows versions.
The program was downloaded with Internet Download Manager and all systems have free AVG and free Zone Alarm as virus checker and firewall.
I use the default settings when installing and then change the preferences to stop the splash screen .

Still have problems with the modified nanny Save so most basic processing still being done on X2.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Are you able to use LeviFiction's script to solve your problems with the Save issue with X8?

Yes the Silent Save does work well. But the point remains that Corel has corrupted the Save button function and it is like having two Save As buttons. As well no other program , graphics , word processing etc uses Save in that way. Corel is going against the current of normal computer program operations on this one. Better to allow setting of the compression in a Save As and using that value in all Saves/ Save As unless changed. The Save button could be disabled in one of the Preferences as a default .
On a laptop with limited screen space I try and keep palletes and toolbars to a minimum and having to have the Script toolbar always present is a pain a I already have a small toolbar with my most used tools on it and taking up little space.

I agree, in trying to help Corel designed a dud and should fix it.

Until they do, hartpaul you don't have to keep the script toolbar open. You can just bind the script to an icon and shortcut key. Then you won't need the script toolbar open at all to use the script.

If you're not familiar with the process here is a video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8FlFL ... lHMFU/view

There was a bug where PSP wasn't allowing me to change the CTRL+S shortcut but a restart of PSP fixed that, I just didn't want to restart PSP while recording. :P

THanks for that Levifiction. You really do go out of your way to help people.
I guess that is one of the great things about PSP in that its original design sometimes allows you to bypass the stuffups that Corel makes.

Sorry Hartpaul. I didn't know you were keeping scripts like these on the scripts toolbar and assumed you would bind it and use it as a replacement button for the Save button and also as a replacement in the File>Save menu.

I am new to this forum but have suffered the same problem, and have had to reinstall PSP X8 without SP1. The lacklustre response from Corel on this is more than disappointing. They seem to be pretending that only a few people are affected. I have been a user of the programme in various versions since the early days, but if this is not resolved soon it will be another programme next time. They seem to be getting careless: I also updated to Videostudio X8 at the same time and that collapsed with a routine Microsoft Update a few weeks ago. In this case, at least they acted quickly and issued a patch - but only those who persisted could find it. Others will just ditch these programmes if Corel doesn't do more to make amends, and quickly.

@dmart7
Could you please do me a favour and send me a private message with your e-mail address that you used to stay in contact with Corel?
I need a system scan from that system where you experienced the issue with PSPX8.1.
Many thanks!

There hasn't been an update to the service pack so I would say that the situation is still as described throughout this thread - that is, works for some people, causes some issues for others.

Hello Forum,

I just felt like adding my 2 cents here. After a trial-Installation of PSP X8 and "OK_ing" the suggested upgrade to X8.1 I have run into massive problems. After searching the net I was pointed to this thread and suddenly all the complaints herein sounded awfully familiar to me.

I didn't install on any laptop, as suggested herein, but rather on a Win7_ultimate(SP1) workstation with a 4K-display. Only common ground seems to be a NVIDIA graphics-card (GForce 8600GTS) with latest drivers so far.

And yet, same thing here. Blank menus on the 64bit-version, garbled, overprinted "Chinese" Symbols on the 32bit version.

I didn't bother to obtain any "tickets" to resolve the issue with support as there seems to be almost none. This is most unfortunate for a one-time-market-leader like Corel but I also haven't got the time to fiddle around with settings or exchanging page-long reports with debugging information.

In my mind it amounts to a declaration of technical bankruptcy that Corel, knowing about those massive issues since (at least) mid January, didn't come up with a solution as of mid-March and, to make things worse, didn't even bother to pull that scandalous X8.1-"malware" from their download-site immediately.

For my part I was lucky enough to only try out new software in some kind of virtualized "try&decide"-environment first and therefore could easily revert to the pre-PSP-status-quo without any remnants of the desaster. As I have checked, a mere "uninstall" would have left tons of garbage in the registry, an infringement not uncommon to many software companies and their phony products today.

Should any Corel-development-teams (and not only poor helpdesk-amateurs) really bother to look into the matter in the distant future, I would start with the bizarr behavior, that the 64-bit version shows all-blank menus/dialogs - whereas the 32-bit version shows garbled, overprinted, single digit pseudo-"Chinese" symbols in that place.

greetings from a one-time-potential-buyer

Sorry to be a pain Simone, but telling someone to contact support is either being very lazy or an admission that no one has an answer. Seems like a bit of a blame game to me.

I think everyone here simply wants Corel to acknowledge, or not, that there is a problem. And if there is a problem are they working on it or not.

If there is an acknowledgement then give a broad time line. If there is no acknowledgement then everyone can then plot their own coarse of action..

@brucet
No-one has be to blamed for that from the beginning.

I have already narrowed down the conflict, and the development team is looking into it.
Don't change anything in your system, leave it as it is, install PSPX8.0 and the development team is trying to get it solved soon.
The Level 1 support is informed, and has got the link for PSPX8.0. If one of you gets a wrong answer from level 1, write to me and I will take care.
Thanks!

Dear Simone, while I thank you for the offer and your personal effort I think I've made it clear that I have no intention of installing that immature and unreliable software on my system.

If a major development-team of a one-time-leading company is incapable or unwilling of/to fixing a catastrophic bug in an "upgrade" that seems to affect every second machine of all "garden-varieties" within 3 months and seems to rely on a help-desk person instead to figure it out - that to me speaks volumes. So, thank you, but no thank you, for your offer and for the time being.

I am glad of having been able to completely get rid of such half-baked alpa-trial-stuff through my virtualization environment for now. So, why did I write and complain in this forum then? Because I got the impression that up until now this whole issue has been treated as some kind of exotic, small minorities-issue only related to some notebooks - or that was the overall impression so far. Well, it is certainly not and this was meant as a wakup-call and also to point out the bizarre difference in behavior between the 32bit and 64bit version. That alone should give professional development-insiders a valid clue to track down the culprit within hours.

greetings
