You could also try converting that problem clip in a third party video converter with the output file having similar properties to the original. This might iron out whatever fault is there -- although if the converter also has difficulty, then that clip has a real problem!
A number of us here use a converter called Format Factory, which is freeware. Just be careful when installing to read each message box from the installer as it offers to install various other things you are unlikely to want like toolbars etc.

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Hi Andy
I don’t have a problem with that video file.
I do always set the project properties to match the video files properties.
I always have “F6 Show Messages when inserting first clip” selected
But I don’t see any problems with audio, yep some noise when moving the bins but no loud click, nearest is at 6 seconds, but just the bin noise?
In an earlier post you said the project properties were 720 x 576, and I assume using 25 fps, that would only display half the frames of the 50P video and impact on quality. It may be the mix of video types that cause that pause in rendering.
I did render the video with no problems, although you say you can do that.
The properties of the video file look similar to my video recorded with a Pana 900 cam corder? I have not had problems with those other than my pc being a little old may need Smart Proxy to help project playback.
I can only suggest you make sure your project properties match the video files properties, and indeed X8 should cope better with HD compared to earlier versions.

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Hi Trevor
Thanks so much for taking the time to have a look at that clip. It remains a bit of a mystery and project properties were set to match the source material (you're right, shot on a Pana HLC -HS900). The point I mentioned about the 720 x 590 was that, rather oddly, although the project properties were set properly '720 x 590 was shown at the top right of the editing screen.
It's actually 2 loud 'clack, clack' noises, one after the other just a second or so into the clip and a good few seconds ahead of the bins being moved.
Anyway, thanks again. Time to move on to the next project.
Regards
Andy

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Just for the record, like Trevor, I have no trouble at all with that clip from any point of view. Certainly no clacking sounds before the bins are dragged. That's with VS X8.5 fully updated 64 bit version on Win 10 x 64.
