x5 freezing and crashing
Only my second posting. I've looked through FAQ and can't find any answers that exactly fit the bill. The program initially froze and crashed only when rendering MT2 files but was OK with MP4. It now freezes and crashes whilst editing, rendering to any video file and, sometimes when loading sound wave data. All updates have been actioned. I was a little surprised there is no Corel support for this version as I've only had it for 3 years but I have done everything they suggested during their very limited 'help'. These include checking for Babylon etc., (not installed) and restoring to factory default.
The only thing left, that Corel suggested, is to uninstall/reinstall. That should be easy but as the product was bought and downloaded I need to click on my original order in the 'my account' tab...............problem is that although the product is registered nothing shows in the 'order history' box.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Hi Andy
VS X5 is a few years old, I remember users having problems with QuickTime auto updates.
Whether that was X5 or other versions I don’t remember.
But intermittent crashes for no apparent reason.
Uninstalling Quick Time and installing Version 7.5.5 seemed to help

Worth a try anyway……

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
I'm having the same problem with VS6. Just about anything makes it crash and hang and I have no choice but to close out and reboot. Better save your work very frequently because VS has a tendency to become very unstable very easily.

Sorry I have to disagree, for me the program is very stable, I guess it may have problems with some video types as there are lots of varieties out thererkstudio wrote:I'm having the same problem with VS6. Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Many thanks for your responses. I still haven't found the cause and it continues to frustrate me. I think I may be forced to upgrade to the latest edition but I'm fearful that even this might not cure the problem.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Hi Andy
Clutching at straws here I am afraid.
Do you use the library to hold a lot of clips of various types.
Have you tried resetting the Library, Settings Library Manager, first if you need the library you can export, that will backup the library.
Nesting
Is a process adding a project file (VSP) within another, again this can cause some problems.
Especially if nesting is done by mistake, with VSP’s added to the library can certainly cause crashes

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Hi Trevor
Very few clips held in library and only import them from EHD when I need them for a project. Also no various types in the library. I've now tried resetting the library as you suggested but the fault remains. The 'nesting' issue you describe isn't occurring.
I thought I'd cracked it earlier today when I tracked down two corrupted frames in two different clips. I successfully trimmed them both using Multi trim and the project then played OK but for the first time of playing.........but then froze and crashed again.
Thanks anyway for suggestions.

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Hi Tony
By EHD I assume External Hard Drive.
Do you copy the files to your pc then import to Video Studio, or import direct from EHD.?
Video Studio may be slow in reading the files on a EHD, certainly when I have tried I found problems, slow loading and slower editing. That may of course been my Net Drive rather than a USB connected drive?
So have you tried moving the files to the pc, do you have the same amount of problems.

Hi Trevor
Yes External hard Drive. I only store the clips on the EHD to save pc disc space. I then copy (or move) the files to my pc then I import to Video Studio. I never work straight from the EHD.
I think I'm going to upgrade and I will report back after Christmas.
Thanks again and a Merry Christmas.

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
I have just purchased version x8 and have exactly the same problem, and my hardware far exceeds the minimum requirements. Very unstable software. I thought that buying a product from a reputable manufacturer such as Corel would ensure a reliable product, but no such luck. I am now looking for something that will be actually useful.

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Hi
And welcome to the forums
You don’t actually give an information regarding the type of video files you are using.
There are thousands of video types and to expect every video editor to cope with all is being a bit optimistic.
Downloaded video, and TV video recorders, video from mobile phones may not be easily edited and can be particularly troublesome.
But again there are many types of video file.
Then of course it could simply be your pc even though its all singing and dancing
If you could give more details of your video, or upload to a sharing site, (google , One Drive etc.) I am sure someone will test for you.
As a last resort you can use your option for a refund, I believe Corel do a 30 day money back guarantee.
Most users find the product reliable.......

You say you have X8 but the original poster has X5 - so obviously you do not have the same problem. I find X8 (and previous versions) to be very stable and I have a much lower system then you. You don't seem to be interested in solving problems since you haven't bothered to post what is happening.

Re: x5 freezing and crashing
Same problem, purchased the software a few days ago and I haven't been able to keep it stable for more than 10 minutes.
Specs are well above required, I just can't figure it out. I have updated everything I could think of, the actual editing while it is working is great. I really want this to work.
Doesn't seem to be related to any specific action, it will freeze and crash on the most simple activities. I tried resetting the libraries, I've tried running it in different compatibility modes, I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I'm just lost. By saving almost every 5 minutes I was able to render out one short video but it was exhausting. I am going to try to reinstall the software again and start from scratch if that doesn't work I may throw in the towel.

Hi Ken,
Apologies I thought X5 was referring to X8.5 which is the version I have installed.
