Re: X8 stops
Ooops I think I have the same issue @hanskru .
If you go Settings/Preferences and click on the Edit tab - go to the bottom of the screen and click "Customize..." Do you get the same empty list?
As a workaround, apply a transition to the end of one clip and only then smash them together - worked for me. But would love to fix it.
Side note: I appear to be missing some transitions "Fade to Black" and "Power Off" ?

Hi zaphodikus,
Something wrong with your system, this is what you should see, can you confirm that you have all transitions available in each category from the A|B dropdown box

Re: X8 stops
Nope - they are all missing in the settings screen - and as I indicate some transitions are missing
.
If I go into the library manager and select reset, whellll it juuust hangs on "(1%) Please wait... OPEN4.vfx" - which indicates a corrupt file - it might be reading a file from my VS 7 install?
edit
I'm going to un-install VS 7 and then try do the library reset step again - that's probably the fault that the manager is stuck loading the plugin from VS7. Will update once I have done doing that.

Re: X8 stops
Instead of uninstalling X7, one other thing you could try would be to go to C:\Users\[Your Name]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro [(x64)] and change the name of the 18.0 folder to 18.0_OLD. Then restart VS. This will rebuild the various libraries and will take a minute or two to complete. Then see if your transitions etc now appear. This is usually a more effective way of doing things than simply using the Library Reset option. And if it doesn't work, you can always delete the new 18.0 folder and revert to the OLD one by changing its name back to 18.0.

Re: X8 stops
Hi Ken
I deleted the 18.0 folders under "Corel VideoStudio Pro [(x64)]" and "Corel VideoStudio Pro". Now when I restart VS it rebuilds the library index and still gets stuck on that file - So I have to kill the process just to be able to use VS. I even deleted open4.vfx and the manager still tries to import it - I have a corrupted install media I guess.
Edit
Is this file in the bonus pack? - Since I bought this ahead of time as a Xmas present, my 30 days support window is up. So I created a new ticket #02499998 - Since the way I see it I bought the "+" size and all I have is half what I paid for. At least I'm not blocked, but I love some of those missing transitions.

Re: X8 stops
It's certainly an integral part of the program. It is installed with 7 other OpenX.vfx files. So yes, it does sound as though something has been corrupted either in the download or on the Corel server.
It occurs to me to wonder if you could try just copying the vfx_plug folder from X7 into X8. It is largely the same. Then replace the 18.0 folder again and see what happens when you reopen X8.

Re: X8 stops
Renaming the X8 vfx_plug folder, then Copying the vfx_plug folder from X7 into its place does not seem to change things at all - although that was a clever move which I should have thought of myself.
Kind of confirms what I found though; was that making copies of "open1.vfx" and renaming each copy, to replace the ones it got stuck on did not really solve the problem. At least the converter from an X8 to an X7 project does work, so I can use X7 Ultimate and wait until my support ticket gets a response and then let you guys know how it gets solved, since it looks like a reasonably reproducible set of install issues.

Re: X8 stops
Hi
Once you replace the VFX_Plug folder / files I think you would need to do the rename / delete 18.0 folder to force the program to rebuild the library.
You could always use Settings Reset Library but I am unsure if that option rebuilds the whole library.

Re: X8 stops
True, Trevor is correct, to do a full rebuild you must delete the 18.0 folder. That does not resolve it however, so I'm back to using X7 untill my ticket gets a response.

Re: X8 stops
Hi
In fact I notice Ken also mentions that in an earlier post,
Anyway I assume you have re-installed X8.
When you install X8 setup files are saved here
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8 Setup Files
You may be best in deleting those before starting a new install just in case they are corrupt?
And when you uninstall select to remove all personal data.

Re: X8 stops
I am so **oody awesome - actually you guys are the awesome ones.
So my littlest one is a novice Studio user - so I go over to his PC and uninstall X7 - then I install X8 on his box, (I can see he is a bit chuffed now) with all the bells as intended.
Then I copy all the "C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8\" files onto the NAS-box
Then back to my dud installation of X8 on my PC, and simply copy his files over the top of mine - then delete both of the the 18.0 folders and start VS. And it seems to all be good. I'm kinda breaking the EULA here - since he is another user, just don't go telling the Corel police. His computer is Win7 and mine is Windows 10, but both 64-bit else this will backfire. My suspicion is that Windows 10 is doing something 'hinky' during the installation file decompressing stages with the clever crash-recovery and app-compatability feature.
I hope this trick of copying the files off of another PC as a last resort helps someone else.

Re: X8 stops
Just one more question - since I still have a crash whenever I click the "instant project" button.
When I look in my desktop, the icon says Corel VideoStudio Pro X8, but the splash screen says Ultimate? What is going on there?

Re: X8 stops
The VS program is identical in both Pro and Ultimate versions. The only difference in the latter are the extra bonus add-ons like Boris, NB filters and the proDAD filters (Vitascene etc). But anyway, that icon merely reflects that VS is the same in both -- though admittedly could confuse people new to the program. We have raised this with Corel in the past but nothing has happened so far.
