Output file size

Post by flip »

I've searched diligently through the various menus but I cannot find how to alter the size of the output file. I'm opening a .jpg of about 10Mb, applying smart fix suggestions and saving. The resulting file is about 3Mb. How can I have PSP not change the basic size of the file please?

If you use File-> Save As, you'll see an "options" button in the bottom corner of the save dialog. In here you can change the compression size. I believe the default is 20. You'll want to set it lower like 10 or 5 to maintain a 10MB file.

You can also use the JPG optimizer for exporting the file.

What version of PSP do you have?

Just thought that I'd add that the same options are available if you use Save Copy As... :-)

Thank you Levi and Joe for your fast responses.

I'm using version x6 16.0.0.113.

Whilst I'm responding I should add that I'm thinking of dropping PSP in favour of Lightroom because a) there's an annoying advert which appears when I close PSP and requires two additional clicks to close the program, in fact now only blank boxes appear which is additionally annoying and b) I received an upgrade discount offer from Corel which directed me to a page which is owned not by Corel but their European distributors who refused to honour the discount. I've written to the leading UK computer magazine to highlight and perhaps embarrass Corel into doing something about such shoddy and underhand behaviour but I doubt it'll do much good. I should add that I've used CorelDraw for perhaps 20 years and WordPerfect since v5,1 so I don't change suppliers lightly.

Thanks again for your help.

That is a message box allowing Corel to send you messages and info about updates, etc., and can be turned off. Go to Help>Message Preferences and untick both of the boxes in the dialogue that appears.

It also sounds like the messages got corrupted. Best way to deal with that is to also delete the messages folder.

Hit "WindowsKey" + R to open the Run dialog - and type appdata

Go to the Roaming folder. Then Corel. And delete the "Messages" folder.

And just for good measure also delete this one.

C:\ProgramData\Corel\Messages

Just rename the "Messages" folder to something like "old.messages" so that if something goes wrong you can always restore it. But for the most part that should get rid of the blank window problem.

And as JoeB said you can turn off all other message notifications.

It should be under Help-> Message Preferences. Just deselect the options.

Naturally you've got to feel comfortable with your software so I hope Lightroom serves you well.
