PRO X8 - Cannot burn to BluRay

Post by RICO »

Hello all,

Trying my first project on PRO X8 and I have uploaded many clips (recorded on SDHC) from my Panasonic X920 FULL HD camcorder. Project settings are on BluRay 1920x1080 but when I go into the SHARE tab to burn, only DVD,AVCHD and SD CARD appear as mediums to transfer to. Why can't I seem to get an option to record onto BLURAY ? What am I doing wrong - probably very obvious I know ?

Thanks in advance,

RICO

Hi
For CVSX8 Corel made the decision to provide a Bluray plugin at an extra cost, about £6

I believe a licencing issue.

Many have been caught out, but I believe it was shown as an extra on your order.

I bought the genuine discs from Amazon, not online, so never noticed this but thank you anyway.

You can also purchase the blu-ray plug-in if within Videostudio you go to "Help >>>purchase blu-ray disc authoring...."

The free upgrade to VS X8.5 also contains a link to another Corel program called MyDVD, which will also burn Blu-Ray discs. This is also free, though IMHO not as good as the VS burning mechanism itself.

For me the BlueRay button on the myDVD program is disabled.

Oh dear! You're right!! I hadn't noticed since I had no intention of using MyDVD. Sorry for the misinformation... Just further compounds Corel's idiocy IMHO... I thought they were giving us MyDVD as a BD burner since they own the program and thus did not have to pay licence fees on it...

It's the mpeg licence fee they have to charge for.

That just makes it stranger since presumably they would be paying the same licence fees for the BD codecs, whether in MyDVD or the original burning module... :?:

Same codec, same licence fee, same amount of money, so if you want 1 licence you pay Y if you want a million you pay 1,000,000 x Y, and I suspect in line with other people, they reckon dvd/bluray is dropping so significantly that it's not worth including the licence to burn and make you pay for it, so you opt in at a later date.
Apple dropped iDVD quite while ago as an app that comes with their iSuite and Microsoft followed suite when they released Windows 8, dropping dvd maker.

Interestingly enough, SP3 for X8.5 has just been released, although it has a released date of 30 November: http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/support/updates/

Amongst other things, it reinstalls MyDVD (and NewBlue Titler) and this time MyDVD has the Blu-Ray option enabled. It remains version 1.0.1.12, however. The release notes state the following:
This update includes fixes for MyDVD, improved MOV playback, better Subtitle Editor stability and support for Thai characters, and it addresses relinking issues in projects.
In the meantime, the SP appears to have wiped all my transitions apart from the Overlay ones, and deleting the 18.0 folder has not fixed the problem. But that is for another thread!
