Rendering final gopro edits to mp4 720p 50fps 29000 kbps
Hey Guys
Haven't been here for a while and haven't done any shooting or editing for quite a while either.
Anyway, saying that:
I have a gopro hero 4 silver that has had some use recently
I shoot in 1080p 50fsp
Excellent quality but too large a file size for practical use.
I find the best final file (for my use) is mp4 720p 50fps at 29000 kbps which is gopro's default if you select 720p
I like to shoot at 1080p to give me a bit leverage for zooms, filters etc but 720p final edit is what suits me
My problem is, I cant set a file share template, or create one, that will give me my preferred file properties
BTW I should probably mention that I use VS x6 Ultimate
I could load a 720p 50fps at 29000kbps file as the first clip and select "same as first clip" but I would much rather have a template.
Can someone shed some light?
Is there an easy way?
Cheers
Mick

Have you tried, in Make Movie Template Manager, using the Add function to create new template? Instead of pressing the New button at the top, press the Add button at the bottom. A new dialogue box appears with two empty windows. The top one has an unhelpful "..." button to its right, though it is labelled File Path. Click it and you can browse to where you have a GoPro 720P clip with the properties you are after. You select that, and its path appears in the upper window. Then in the lower window, give the new template a name. Next time you want to use it, you go to Share > Create Video File, and your new template should now appear at the very bottom of the dropdown menu which appears.
Be careful not to move the target file you selected in Add. Otherwise, this will cause the template to fail. You could make a small sample file with the Properties you want and use that as the target if you want to move larger files elsewhere.
This works on my version of X6 with my own GoPro Hero 3 footage, and I believe your Hero 4 footage has the same properties, so it should work for you too.

Hey Ken
Yer I did try that after reading it from one of your earlier post on a similar subject.
But it didnt work for me.
It came up with an error starting "file mismatch"
Any clues?
Cheers

Re: Rendering final gopro edits to mp4 720p 50fps 29000 kbps
The only time I have received a 'file format mismatch' message from VS with regard to GoPro footage has been when that footage has been filmed in what VS regards as an unusual frame size. As you would be aware, you can set the Hero to use "non-standard" frame sizes such as 1280 x 960 (instead of the more usual 720) or 1920 x 1440 (instead of the more usual 1080).
So are you absolutely sure your original video is 1920 x 1080, or have you inadvertently set the camera to film in 1920 x 1440...?

Im pretty sure Ken but I will double check when I get home from work later on
Just thinking:
I have my gopro clip on my desktop.
From laziness really.
Should I save it somewhere else?
In a video studio file for example?
You mentioned not to move the file.
Should it be in a certain place to begin with?
Cheers

Re: Rendering final gopro edits to mp4 720p 50fps 29000 kbps
No need to move it anywhere else if it is normally on your hard disk. My comment about moving things around relates to my own workflow and that of others. I, for instance, keep most of my clips on an external hard drive, and usually leave them there for months, even after completing a project, on a 'just in case' basis. But equally you can store them on your hard disk if you have a large drive and don't need the space.
But my point was that if you *do* move the one you used as the target in the Add process to another drive, then that new template will no longer be able to link to the target clip, and thus will no longer work. Hence my suggestion of making a short, small clip from one of your 720P clips, which won't take up much space at all, and thus could live forever on your hard disk (or whatever disk you normally store clips on)...

Re: Rendering final gopro edits to mp4 720p 50fps 29000 kbps
OK thanks Ken
I will check it and try it again tonight.
But I am pretty sure I have the standard frame size (1280 x 720)
No real problem.
I can alway film my first clip at 1280 x 720 at 50fps and select "same as first clip" like I did last time.
Would just be nice to have a template.
Knowing me, I will forget to change my camera setting back.
Cheers

Re: Rendering final gopro edits to mp4 720p 50fps 29000 kbps
It's not the output format I'm worried about for that template. It's that error message. You say rour original footage is 1080. But my question is whether it is really that or whether in reality it is one of the non-standard ones....

Re: Rendering final gopro edits to mp4 720p 50fps 29000 kbps
Well Guys
I checked my gopro clip and it is definatly 1280 x 720.
I again tried to create a template using Make Movie Template Manager and when I browse for clips, none of my mp4 clips are available to select in any frame size or fps.
Something strange going on there.
Cheers

Re: Rendering final gopro edits to mp4 720p 50fps 29000 kbps
When you first open Make Movie Template Manager, the dialogue box normally opens and at the top it gives the format to be used. By default, this is the top of the list -- AVI. So you need to scroll down to MPEG-4 and only then press Add. Does that make any difference?
Just getting back to the frame size business, you said in your first post:

That is why I was asking for confirmation of exactly what the frame size was of your *original* video, not the output frame size for your edited projects...I have a gopro hero 4 silver that has had some use recently
I shoot in 1080p 50fsp

Ummmm
I will have to have a look when I get home
but from memory, I thought that dropdown box was AFTER you clicked on add
with the selections being, all formats, avi, mp4 and all files.
Yer I find that I like to shoot in 1080p 50fps so I have some leg room
I shot a small clip at 720p 50fps so I could make this darn template.
Cheers

Hi
Earlier of Video Studio versions (upto X6) used a Make Movie Templates Manager
That allowed you to choose Add to add any video format.
CVSX7 onwards used Movie Profile Manager, a new panel, now we have to choose the Format followed by Add.
What version of Video Studio are you using.?

That was in his first post above. Unfortunately, I didn't have my computer with X6 on it open at the time, so relied on my evidently faulty memory of how Make Movie Template Manager worked...!mds70 wrote:BTW I should probably mention that I use VS x6 Ultimate
