Can't Share to DVD

Post by damiands »

Hi All
Perhaps someone can help me. I have just purchased VS X8, installed and updated etc together with the content pack.
I spent hours preparing a slideshow and was looking forward to burning it to DVD. I went to SHARE/DVD and it opened and started to load the project. After it loaded it just hung there and did not move to the next step.
I have tried re-installing the program but to no avail.
Help please !!!!!!

PS. Also I do not seem to have to ability to burn to Blu-Ray as mentioned in the program advertisement/specifications, but anyway it seems I cannot burn to anything at the moment.

It rather sounds as if you didn't purchase and install the "High-Def/Blu-ray Disc Plug-In" when you purchased your copy of Videostudio - and to be honest I do not know how you go about purchasing that on it's own - it is available when you buy the programme - is there any mention of it in the e-mail you received from Corel when you purchased the programme - I see you are in the UK so the price is around £6

maybe you need to contact Corel Support direct - you should have received a support code for that - and ask them how you now buy the plug-in

Hi BrianCee
Thanks for replying so promptly.
I purchased the software through Herman St. as part of a Black Friday promotion which didn't mention the Blu Ray plugin. So I just got the program and the content pack.
Are you suggesting I have to buy a DVD plugin as well? At the moment I don't need a Bly-ray plugin.

Thank you.

Yes as I said it is called the "High-Def/Blu-ray Disc Plug-In" - without it you can only create 'standard' DVD's

you should have been offered the option to purchase it when you purchased the programme - your supplier should tell you how to get it

you could try asking on the Corel facebook page at - - https://www.facebook.com/corelvideostudio/

Thanks again

PS. You can buy that Blu-Ray plug-in from the help section from within the program.

OK - so perhaps we can help you with burning a standard DVD

you say you go to "Share >> [disc] >> DVD" the burn module opens and the project loads - does that mean you then see your project in the little timeline at the bottom - - after that YOU need to click "Next" - do you do that - and what happens then

The alternative is NOT to load the project file into the burning module, but instead to first convert the project into a DVD-compatible mpeg-2: Share > MPEG-2. (Note that if your project is longer than an hour, then you go to Share > Custom then select MPG as the output format. Then press the cogwheel icon and lower the bitrate to around 6000 kbps if the project is around 90 minutes; or 4000 kbps if it is 2 hours. Make sure the other properties in that dialogue box also match what you want: on the compression page you can toggle between NTSC and PAL; and on the first page you can select Frame Based if your project is a slideshow, or else Upper Field First if it contains high def video...)

When the conversion is finished and you have the new video file, then you go to Share > DVD. When the burning module opens, if there is anything in the timeline, delete it and insert the new video file (Add Media at the top left of the burning screen). This time round you should not get any errors.

Here's a screenshot. Notice the markings on the clip at the bottom.

Hi Brian
That's exactly what happens only the next button doesn't appear.

I'll give Ken's suggestion a go and see if that fairs better. I'll keep people advised.

Take the tick out of the "Use first clip as introductory video" box - you only have one clip so there is not a "first" one

if the next button still does not appear try the windows shortcut for Next of pressing Alt and N at the same time (Alt+N)

Hi
In addition to the introductory video…………

Something looks unusual regarding your video files frame size.

I would expect the thumbnail and preview screen to be full with no borders.
Your video seems to sit in the middle of the screen?
As though the project is using 4:3 with a 16:9 video, that would create the borders top and bottom.
I assume the clip showing there is a project file VSP, click the “ I “ for properties.

Take a snapshot of that panel and attach to your post, thanks.

Hi All

Thanks very much for your suggestions.

Ken's method worked very well, so thanks for that.

Brian's suggestion of removing the tick from a one clip video worked a treat and enabled me to burn a DVD from the project.

Lata, thanks for your input and I appreciate your advice. However the clip is really a slideshow of wedding photos of various sizes after cropping etc so they will never fit either 4:3 or 16:9 without borders top, bottom or each side. The only way to correct this is either reduce or stretch the photos and I don't think the bride would appreciate looking a bit on the plump side lol.

Thanks everyone for their patience and advice and it appears the problem has now been solved without the need to buy to Blu-ray plugin which probably wouldn't have helped anyway.
Cheers
