I had VS 7 on the drive as an upgrade from VS 6.
Does Corel have the info needed to upgrade to VS 8 on my new hard drive?

do you have a disc for X7 - that is usually all that is needed - when installing the upgrade you have to pop the disc into your computer for verification
If you do not have a disc did you register your version of X7 if so the serial number will be stored in your account on the Corel.com website so that you can retrieve it to enter when upgrading - if you did not register and do not have a record of the serial number then no - there is nothing that can be done - except you buy the full version of X8.5
