For about the last four-ish months (I don't use this program often), every time I go in to edit something, PSPXI shuts down almost immediately with the message "PSPXI has stopped working". I've read some older message boards about this issue, but haven't found a solution yet. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? I love my ancient edition and want to try to avoid buying a new one if possible.
Thanks!

Do you have the service packs installed?
You could try resetting it to it's default settings and see if that makes a difference:
Open PSP and hold the Shift key at the same time. A message is generated saying PSP is returning to it's default settings. Click OK.
