NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
I did a search but couldn't find a previous post. I may be using the wrong search words. Anyway, it seems that after I import photos from my camera and while I review the directory, the photos thumbnails (and the photos when you open them) change the color balance (even if I don't want them to change). I can watch this happen as it seems they are loading into the database. So I do a database reset, and waaa-laa the changes are gone, but then they start coming in again... photo by photo... when I open that directory. As if either Aftershot Pro 2 or Perfect Effects, or PSP 8X Ultimate is applying some automatic editing.
Strange thing is that when I use another program (such as explorer or say the photos app that comes with Windows 10) the thumbnails and everything look normal.
Can anyone please either direct me to a prior post or give me some guidance on where to look to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance....

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
The first step in troubleshooting a color issue is to go to File>Color Management>Color Management and uncheck the box beside Enable Color Management. In the top text box you should see sRGB Color Space Profile.icm.

Thanks for the reply.
I did uncheck the Enable Color Management Box and the proper spec was showing in the upper right hand box. I did a database reset but alas... it still goes through and changes the color as the files get catalogued. My nice sharp clear images get a purple hazy cast and it only shows up in PSP. I can load any other photo management or editing software and the thumbnails appear normal even though in PSP they have the purple hazy cast. I'm still baffled. I'd take a screenshot but I am using a Surface Pro 3 and don't know how to take screenshots on it.

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
Sure seems like it is some batch command or pre-processing but I can't find where that might have been enabled.... any other ideas?

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
My other ideas are all just ways to try to isolate the problem. But can you tell us if you're importing RAW images or images in jpg or other format? If the former, then take some images in jpg format and transfer them and let us know if you have the same issue.
As for further isolating the problem, if you have an earlier version of PSP available (e.g., X7 or X6) try installing that and see if you have an issue with that version. If no issue, then the problem is either your install of X8 or a combination of how X8 and Windows 10 and your Surface Pro are not playing well together. You could use the complete uninstall tool available at the link near the top of this forum to do a clean uninstall and then reinstall it.
Another option is if you have access to a computer with Windows 8.1 or even 7 you could install X8 on it and see if the issue still exists.
You could also install X8 on a computer with Windows 10 and see if the issue still exists.
It would be interesting if anybody else is using a Surface Pro with Win 10 and X8 and if they have any issues.

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
Interesting issue is that it was working fine. Then one time my Surface started slipping out of my lap and I grabbed it and something changed, but I could not tell what it was. (My dog decided he needed some attention and disturbed my PSP session.) I don't know if it switched over to PSP, AfterShot 2 or Perfect Effects or what, but the next time I imported the images from the camera, (both raw (NEF (Nikon))) and jpg files) they started changing one at a time.... I could see it in the "manager" mode and image after image was being "converted" or tainted with the purple hazy cast. And now every time I import more images from the camera, they get converted as long as I have that directory up, each image, in order of the import, gets the conversion. I can only stop the process if I exit PSP. But when I reload PSP, it starts converting both the NEF and JPG images.

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
In that case the most likely culprit is that you hit some button on the Surface when you grabbed it that changed some setting in PSP. I'd have suggested it changed some color setting on the computer but you say that colors in all other programs are correct so that can't be the case. So do a clean uninstall using the tools in the sticky link near the top of the forum and then reinstall. It's obviously something specific to you because you are the only one who has this issue with Color Management disabled as far as I've seen.

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
Ok, I'll try the clean up and re-install. I think it is interesting that if I do database reset, that the images will look ok, but the process of changing the images starts all over again.
Thanks for all of your help!!!!!

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
Rather than re-install an easier first step would be to reset the program - save the worspace, close PSP and then hold the shift key while starting it.

I'll take a short video of the screen while this is happening and post it.... maybe that might trigger some ideas as well.

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
OK,
I uninstalled PSP and re-installed psp. I uninstalled Aftershot 2, PerfectlyClear, PerfectEffects and everything Corel. Believe me, it was a chore. I reloaded PSP 8X Ultimate, AfterShot, Perfectly Clear, Ultimate Creative Collection, Perfect Effects. It still will cycle through the directory and now just seems to be hitting the RAW (NEF) files. I have a video of what I am seeing on YouTube. at https://youtu.be/z1QcPcsN34k https://youtu.be/z1QcPcsN34k
If you will notice that the colors of the thumbnails start changing after the screen of thumbnails loads and it continues throughout the folder as long as that folder is open. I can run the resetdb.exe command from the PSP directory and it will start the process all over next time I go into that folder. It does not change folders that were of imports of files from before I started having this problem.
I think it might be changing the white balance or something.... just hard to tell what it is doing and why...... How do I stop it and still use PSP?
With Kindest Regards,
Bart

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
Great.... Now my perfectly clear plug in is not loading in PSP either..... Arghhhh
I wish there was a cleaner for AfterShot Perfect Effects, and Ultimate Creative Collection and Perfectly Clear. Trying to uninstall the software proved difficult at best and I am not certain I got a clean install this go-around.
I did have to download Aftershot Pro and use it's un-install feature to get Aftershot off. But I think it left some residual files. I did a registry edit and removed all Aftershot entries. Why do they make that so difficult. I still feel that it has something to do with some batch, pre-processing or a database feature. Lord knows what it is.
If someone has a great idea on how I can get the plugins to reload, I would sure appreciate that advise too.
With Kindest Regards, and Thanks in Advance!

Re: NEWBIE Alert--Tint cast changing when tranfering photos
I have decided this is a problem with Nikon's transfer software somehow..... If I cut and paste the RAW and JPG images manually, PSP doesn't try to change the color/whitebalance or whatever it was changing.
Just Thought I would Let You Folks Know. I also wanted to thank those who offered help or comments! Awesome folks!
