How can I remove unwanted Codecs?

I have a problem with MS media player and I want to delete some old Codecs which MS codec checkers says are not compatible. Is this possible / desirable ?

They may not be compatible with WMP, but they MIGHT be with some other programs which won't function if you remove them. You need to be very sure about this before you remove codecs.
