Reporting bug in Paintshop

Post by tomkinsrichard »

I am using Paintshop X7.

I have an image that I resize and it develops an anomalous colour down the right side of the image during the resize. I used bicubic. bilinear produces the same stripe. Smart size does not produce the pink stripe.

I suspect that the selection array for processing each colour is off in PaintShop or the bicubic and bilinear algorithms have bugs.

See my attachments.

In case anyone asks, I did purchase the rights to use this image.

If this was a bug everyone would have it and that's not the case. X7 has now been superceeded by X8 and I certainly do not see any colour lines after resizing images. I wish I could be more helpful.

Hi Richard,
are you sure the pink line is INSIDE the image or only displayed on screen?
It may vary when zooming (Zoom tool).

The following three images are all resized from the original image. On the BiCubic and the BiLinear, you see the pink line on the right side of the image.

If this is the wrong place to report a bug, let me know.
I don't need an argument that if it was then every body would see it thing and I certainly don't need a reminder that X8 has been released. As to this being some kind of screen shot, sheesh, give me a break.

This is a bug. I am attaching three images, BiCubic sampling, BiLinear sampling and SmartSize sampling.

The original image is 2419 x 3325 pixels, 8 bits per channel, JPEG.

tomkinsrichard, you can report bugs here but whether or not the developers on Corel will ever see it is hard to say. They do occasionally look through the forums but they rarely post. So if they do see it, you're not guaranteed to know.

The best way to report a bug is to call support. Sadly that costs money, though they will refund you if they agree that it's a bug in their program.

Other suggestions are to post to their Facebook account, they tend to remove posts that don't fit in with the purpose of the page but it does make them and others aware.

Hope that answers your question.

As a side note, can you provide a link to where we can buy the image to test for ourselves as well? Also, just curious, do you see the same thing with similar images? Or just this one?

I did a Google Image search for the image labelled Helping Hands and found a couple of images similar to the one being discussed.
However the closest one had a top guy that was red rather than white.
It had copy right marks all over it and was a jpg size 1024 x 896 pixels.
I placed it in PSP X2 and resized to 300 pixels on the longest side using bicubic resampling.. - no pink border.
I then loaded the same image into X7 and repeated the process and again no pink border.
I tried other forms of resizing (smart resize, bilinear etc) and again no pink border.
I cannot repeat the "bug" on PSP with an XP Wndows machine.

Have you done any other processing to the original image before you resized it.
If you report it to Corel, they will want to know the exact steps that produces the problem / bug. Unless it is reproducible they will probably ignore you.
This forum provides a channel for you and others to ask for assistance and prove that something is a bug, BEFORE you try passing it onto Corel.
You need to give us a series of steps you have followed to get the problem so that we can test it out on different machines and different versions of PSP. Only if it is reproducible on a wide variety of machines using different versions of Windows can you claim it as a bug.

Hi tomkinsrichard,
I tried to reproduce your problem but with no luck : no pink border.

Could you test the following :
- mirror your original image from left to right and make your resize.
- mirror your image up-down and make your resize.

Does this effect happens with ALL your images ?

I purchased the image at Fotolia. #26551818, illustrations, copyright AKS. Having purchased the image in the XL size, I have the original without any copyright marks or other extraneous marks on the image.

I resized the original a JPEG saved as a PNG.

I have 64 bit Windows 10 and 64 bit PaintShop.
