Issue processing mov files
Hi guys
Am using videostudio pro x8 , Windows 7 64 bit
Am creating a project using mov files from my dslr camera
I can import them ok into the library and things look normal
I can then drag them to the timeline and still all is ok
They will maybe play ok
But then the mov files appearance change to black and white
When you play the files , blank screen
I have reinstalled QuickTime but no difference
Hope you can help me
Thank you

Re: Issue processing mov files
Normally when videos in the timeline go black and white it is because Videostudio can not connect to the actual file - you say you imported them to your library - but did you do that after you had copied them to your hard drive or before.
if you did not copy them from your camera to the hard drive then have you now disconnected your camera
when you import files to a library you do not actually move the files - the thumbnail in the library is just a link to the actual video file - which I am guessing is still in your camera ??
transfer the files to your hard drive and then import to your library.

Hi Brian
Cheers for your comment
I wish it was that simple
But files are being imported from my HDD
When you play the mov files in the timeline you can hear the audio, so they definitely exist
You can generally play the mov files once in the timeline before they change to black and white stripes.
I create lots of projects using all sorts of video formats
I have never come across this before and I have had earlier versions of VS
This is only occurring with 'MOV' files
thanks

Re: Issue processing mov files
Hi
There were some problems with Video Studio displaying some files as you describe.
Corel did provide a Hot Fix but I would have thought this would have been incorporated with the Service Pack 8.5
The Hot fix is a replacement for a ulmp4lib.dll file.
Locate the existing file here:-
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8 -- for 64 bit program
Rename the existing file to ulmp4lib_old.dll
Copy and paste the new ulmp4lib.dll
And if this causes more problems revert to the old version.

Re: Issue processing mov files
Tried the DLL swap but VS just crashes everytime, backed that out quick smart
Yes am running the latest version and update
But I tried some other mov files from other devices and didn't have any issues with them
So I am really curious whats different about the mov files created from my Nikon D3100, compression ?

Re: Issue processing mov files
Hi
Can you provide samples of your Nikon D3100 Mov files
You will have to upload to a sharing site maybe DropBox, Microsoft One Drive etc.
We can try to replicate the problem, at least it will rule out any problems with your program.

Re: Issue processing mov files
Hi Skuppy
Thanks for the sample.
I am having the same problems with that video file, shows ok for a while then a black screen and black and white thumbnails.
I seem to have better results using X7, although I do have to enable Smart Proxy and create a proxy file which then plays quite smoothly.
As I mentioned there are a lot of varieties of Mov which is giving the video editors a bit of a problem.
Anyway I have copied the ulmp4lib.dll from X7 to X8 and that now seems to work with your video mov file.
If it works for you let us know, also try your other mov files to see if they also work.
Thanks for the sample.

Re: Issue processing mov files
Hello
I would like to contribute my issues to this thread.
I had VideoStudio X5 (32bit) and it worked perfectly with my MP4 video files from a Panasonic Lumix LX7.
2 weeks ago I upgraded to VideoStudio X9 (64bit) and was unsuccessful playing the timeline whenever a MP4 was on an overlay track.
If there is only 1 video on the main track, all seemed fine. As soon as the progress line approached the video on the overlay track it would crash.
The Windows application event logs suggested ulmp4lib.dll.
The problems persist after updating to service pack 1.
I downloaded your ulmp4lib.zip (x7 version) file attached to the post above and everything seems to be working fine now.
Of course I am interested in an official solution to the existing product (x9).
If you need a sample mp4 I can provide one.
Here is a copy of the event log using the official version:

Re: Issue processing mov files
Hi
During the reign of CVSX7 we were getting a lot of problems with Mov and MP4 type video, I put it down to new camera versions being developed with modified codecs, IPhone videos being particularly troublesome not surprising that some video caused problems, that left editors doing catchup, Corel did provide a string of fixes modifying the ulmp4lib.dll file
I had assumed the latest fix had then been applied to the service packs for X7 and X8
If you are having problems with X9 and video from the Pana Lumix then please report this to Corel Support
I have a Pana Lumix TZ 70, I think it records similar video to your version. although I record to AVCHD not MP4?
I did own a TZ7 but did not like the zoom being closed by hand
Can you also provide a sample uploaded to maybe OneDrive.

that is good - so you have solved your problem - we can tell others with similar problems to try that

Re: Issue processing mov files
Hello Guys
Sorry I didn't reply sooner about this issue
But by using the ulmp4lib.dll from pro7 as suggested by lata it worked a treat, problem solved
I wonder if the issue would be resolved in VD9 ?
Anyway thanks to all for their contribution
Much appreciated as usual

Re: Issue processing mov files
apparently they have updated the dll file for x9 in one of the service packs or hot fixes as I have file version 19.2.0.4 and this dates from 13/4/2016 as opposed most other dll's from 3/2/2016 (probably when I installed vsx9)
