Activation Problem

Post by higgybear »

Just downloaded yesterday after purchasing Corel PaintShop Pro X8 Ultimate (AfterShot 2 came with the purchase).
Very frustrated because I can't activate AfterShot 2, key will not correctly go into the activation slot. I uninstalled and re-installed, same problem still exists, therefore the program will not even open up. Any suggestions?

When you say the key will not go into the slot, do you mean via Cut/Paste, or even if you type in the key manually? Or does nothing appear either way?

As I have done with similar problems (as I myself had trouble registering ASP 1 and 2), I have drawn your problem to the attention of the Corel execs who look after ASP.

Thanks, I replied in an email. I forgot to mention that when I did the install from the download, then installed the update manually that I found online, I can enter the key during the install. After doing this I received an email saying "Thank you for registering your software".

I also had manually added AfterShot manually with the key to my list of products. If you look at my account I have been a long time user of Corel products, even before it was Corel, I started using when it was Jasc. But, I have never encountered so many problems on registering.

Even though registration looks to go through, when I try to open the program I get the following message:

Catalog Unavailable
The catalog: cachedb (cachedb:C:/Program Files/Corel/Corel AfterShot 2/build/cache) cannot be locked and will not be opened.

And then Windows has to close the program because it will not open.

Bonnie -- it would have been better if you had responded to Alex's private message to you via another private message. The email address you used is not accessible by him but is used by the Site Admin team for... well.. Admin purposes! Anyway, I have forwarded your email to him...

I am also having the same problem with the activation code. If I try to paste it it leaves most the numbers off. Tried manually and some letters would not enter even when I grabbed a ball pen hammer to try and force it in the slot.

I'm having a similar problem as higgybear. I have a 4 part key and the activation clearly requires a 6 part key. I contacted support and have a ticket open. If this doesn't get resolved soon, I'm gong to make use of the 30-day money back guarantee!

Hi I am also having problems trying to put in my Activation code. It will not allow me to enter manually and if I copy & paste it will not put in all the code? Would be grateful of help. :)

Thanks

b773 and Deb -- I have again drawn the responsible Corel execs' attention to your problems...

The curious part, though, is that my own key was a 4 part one, with 7 numbers or letters in each of the four groups. Space for how many letters shows in each of the six spaces you see?

Thank you Ken. :)

My code is 4 groups of 7 letters/numbers, but there is space 5 or 6 groups.

I've just heard back from one of the Corel execs. He said the cause of the problem in these various cases is proving hard to pin down but he intends to post something here this evening North American time...

I will send this exec's email address to you via another email in case you wish to talk more quickly with them.

Thanks Ken for you help. :)

Just to let everyone know that I downloaded the new version of the Standard and it let me type in the code. But still no go with the code for the Pro version.

Will wait to hear what the Corel exec can find out about it. :)

Hi all,

Thanks for jumping on to the forum to let us know about this and thanks to Ken for escalating. This activation issue is something we’ve recently become aware of and our team has been working to determine the cause. Thus far we cannot consistently reproduce this issue, so we need some help from those of you who have experienced this.

The development team is looking to speak with a few individuals with serial number issues to gather more information and attempt to consistently reproduce this issue. I’ve PM’d (private messaged) those of you in this thread asking for additional details.

If anyone else would like to report on this issue, please send me a PM. In your message, be sure to include your system details, AfterShot build number and a short description of the steps you’ve taken up to this point. I will be in touch and then get you connected with the team for further discussion.

I’ll be checking in on this thread regularly, so please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again.

AfterShot 2 now working! I downloaded the Trial version, during installation I selected "I have a Serial Number" and was able to type in my key. At first the program would fail to open, I went to Properties, clicked the Compatibility tab and selected Run as Administrator, and now the program opens and works properly!

I hope this helps!

Thank you to the Corel team for advice!
