VS X8.5 Pro - Will not Render - Crashes at 11%
Hi,
Long time VS user, and have never seen these problems before. Some background: I have Windows 7 x64 with 16gigs of ram, I am building a 60 birthday video that consists of 300 pictures/jpg' s and 6 .MOV video clips (ranging from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, that came from various cameras), and MP3 music. The video is 31.5 minutes long. Here are the issues in order of priority:
- Video will not render. VS gets to about 9-11% and then stops responding. Have tried to render with and without menu's. Same thing... Any help here would be greatly appreciated, going to his surprise birthday party Friday and wanted to show the video...
- After putting the video together, I reviewed it in playback and it worked fine; but got the stopped responding message after playback - every time!
- The mp3 files will only play on the voice track in VS X8, and not on the audio track. The mp3 files play as clips fine as well.
Everything works fine when the pieces are tested separately in VSX7/VSX8, but I have done all this work in VS X8 (actually X8.5 now) so I really done not want to start all over again (time is running against me) .
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!

Remove the mp3 files - convert them to .wav files - put the .wav file into the music track - render video.

Hi Brian,
Thank you for your help. Are you sure this will work? I ask respectively, because there are ma m3 file in the 33 minute video, and they have to be reedited after I convert them to wav files. Historically, I have never had an issue with mp3, but I will give it a try.
Jeff
PS: I thought the issue might have been the mp4 video files...

If the problem is at ~11%, than look at that point.
The problem can be a clip or FX.
Convert that clip to WMV or change the FX to something else

Hi,
Sounds like a good idea, but how do you know where 11% is on the timeline?

The formula is
length of your project in minutes - divided by 100 - multiply by 11 = number of minutes for 11%
thus for a 100 minute project 11% will equal 11 minutes
for a 50 minute project 11% will equal 5.5 minutes
etc.

Thank you for your help!
Did the calculation, and 11% is roughly where I use a purchased stock template from Corel called Wedding_04 (from Wedding pack) which is located in the VSPTemplate folder under MY Documents on the C Drive. It is accessed from the Custom Folder within VS8. All I did was replace the 9 picture holders with my pictures, delete the music and replace the music with a mp3 file.
I can't seem to upload the Wedding_04 folder, but it contains 19 files and looks normal. I could send it to you if I had an email address, mine is

Any thoughts or comments? Trying anything. I haven deleted all the MP3 music files and still had the 11% rendering problem. I have even convert all the MP4 video files to AVI - still have the same rendering issue...

Hi Jeff
It is unusual that Instant Templates cause problems, but I guess anything can happen.
Most if not all images will have a filter or motion applied, pan & zoom etc.
You could try removing all edits applied to the images, I guess that will also remove the effect you are after, but may identify any problems.
Obviously we are willing to test the Instant Project (Wedding_04) for you.
I will e-mail you, you will have to Zip the folder then attach to your e-mail,
I will pass the folder to Brian for his opinion

Oh when you replaced the placeholders what type of files did you use?

Have you tried first rendering that Instant Project separately into a video, and then inserting the video into the main project in place of the Instant Project?

Hi,
I recreated the clip and then rendered it successfully and now a VSP. How do you insert the VSP into a timeline about 4 minutes in?

Why are you trying to insert a .vsp - if as you say you "rendered" the clip then you will have a video file - put the video file into your timeline
as long as you have a split in the present video in the position the new clip goes then just drag it from the library onto the split - the other clips will move to allow it in.

Jeff, add additional overlay track and place that clip at the point overlaying the "old" problematic setup.
