red tint 255 coming out orange red 3 - fixed by C Paint ?

Post by chispa »

I am using a Panasonic FZ200 set to auto to take pictures of paintings (my own). All of the colors come out correctly except red 1 (tint 255.0.0,) it looks more like a orange red 3 in Corel.
I am a newbie with Paint 3, never used until recently, now trying out Paint 8. Using the One Step or Smart Color Fix does not correct the problem, does not change the orange red 3 look to a natural red 1, and this color is the only one that is off, blues, whites, yellow and greens are correct. Is this a camera problem that can be corrected, like removing a blue overcast, or making white area whiter when using the One Step or Smart buttons? Shot indoors with natural light - same when shot outdoors.
Is there a way to use the color picker to correct this orange red 3 look to a natural red 1 as it is in paintings ?
Total newbie with photo software but I have gotten down some of the basics. Thank you

When you refer to Paint 3 and 8, do you mean Corel PhotoPaint 3 and 8? If so, you are in the wrong group of forums. PhotoPaint is an element of the CorelDRAW family of programs. (I understand Corel has made PhotoPaint 8 a free download, given that it is so out of date... The current version of CorelDRAW and PhotoPaint is 17 (X7).)

At any rate, if this is what you are talking about, the relevant Board is at http://community.coreldraw.com/

Our Board deals with a different group of programs, the nearest of which would be Paintshop Pro, but I am pretty sure that is not the program you have...

I looked up Corel history on wikipedia. I did not know there was so many paint programs associated with Corel. I will read the X8 PDF user guide more closely for answer. Thank you

Hi chispa,
try to disable the Color Management in PSP. Some times, it helps to have correct colours.

PS : you speak about PSP 3 and PSP 8 but you are not correct. PSP 3 and PSP 8 are old versions. You need to speak about PSP X3 (= 13) because the X is the roman numeral. :)

Thank you Jean Luc. I have corrected my profile to the correct version of software. I bought PSP X3 several years ago but it sat unopened until 3 weeks ago. I relied on GIMP beforehand and only used that occasionally. As I said above I did not know Corel had so many versions of paint programs, my mistake for the confusion. I will try your suggestion of turning off color management to see if that helps.

Solution found. After a careful reading of the online help related to color difference I came across this:
Selection of area to Adjust to Color to Channel Mixer turn off monochrome and move red to the right for correct color. I was able to match color of original.

I am wondering if there is someway to use the color picker to choose the exact color tint or using color codes, selecting the area and filling ??
