Need info on computer
I need to replace my Vista windows computer to run X8. I would like some suggestions on a >$1000 laptop computer if anyone would like too comment. I realize this could turn into a clash of opinions so understand if no one comments. I have tried the 4 computer stores in my area but they are not experienced with video editing requirements. I have looked on Amazon but I don't know enough about computers to make an educated choice.
Thank you for any help.

Not sure where you are in the world. That's important since prices vary widely around the world. But depending on what local prices are, I would be looking for a decent i5 CPU, at least 8 GB RAM, and a separate GPU with at least 1 GB of its own RAM. Mind you, if you are going to be editing 4K video now or in the not too distant future, you will need more high end components.

Re: Need info on computer
Look on the Corel web site. Under VideoStudio you will find Specifications, this is a list of the MINIMUM computer requirements to run VideoStudio. Print it off and get your supplier to recommend a computer with specifications better than on the list.
Personally I would not use a laptop as IMO they are too restricting. My (2 year old) PC runs two screens, one for the preview window, has expanded memory and room for a Blu-Ray burner and is fitted with a FireWire card for my old Canon HV20 tape camcorder. Plus I can add a microphone for voiceovers and a decent sound system or headphones. It also gives me a base to do all my editing and a permanent wired connection to the Ethernet.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Need info on computer
These are the people that built mine for me, Had it over 2 years now with not a moment of a problem, You can go on their website and configure your own, or speak to them for advice.

As Terfyn said a PC is far better than a laptop and go for a Firewire there may be a time you want to transfer some old tapes even if you borrow a firewire camera or someone wants you to transfer theirs.

Thank you all for the help and advice. I have talked to my grandson who is computer savvy and he is going to build a desktop unit for me.
