One more idea.....in a word Protexis
Well somewhere in the back of my head says yes it has been a problem before unfortunately I think the solution was a re-install of Windows.
Doug
Do you have any other Corel programs installed
There is a small piece of software called PSIService_2.exe, (License Service) there may be two types on older installations?
This is provided by Corel as we assume a security file, and as far as I know may disable Corel software.
I would suggest you first uninstall all Corel programs.
From Task Manager "end task" for all PSI running, as I say there may be two
Then locate this folder and delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Protexis
Reboot the pc
Try installing Video Studio.
I don't have any other Corel programs installed. VS x8 trial version was the only Corel product ever installed. I have the X8 setup file that won't install on the computer but that's it.
I want to verify what you want me to do. I don't want to screw up my computer.
This is what in the Task Manager:
Do I stop PSI from running?
This is what's in program files:
The date of the Protexis (10/16/2015) file is the date I installed the trial version of X8. Do I delete Protexis?
I ran CC Registry Cleaner and it cleaned up many Corel related entries. I wonder if manually deleting would help?
As always, thanks for your input.
Doug

Re: Nightmare installation problems
Hi Doug
Protexis is installed by the Corel programs hence the date being the same as Trial installation.
It may be that this software is interrupting the installation.
Simply removing Protexis may affect the working of any Corel installed programs which is why I suggested uninstalling all Corel programs, you only have the one program
With no Corel programs installed you can remove protexis.
First End the Process PSIServices
Then delete the Protexis folder
Reboot the pc
Reinstalling X8 hopefully will work, PSI Services will be installed again when installing X8
Certainly we are running out of ideas and if this does not work you should contact Corel Support
