Although not what you were asking...
Or you could select the face, and with the selection still in place add a new raster layer, select the tan colour of choice (it will be way too strong but ignore that), paint the face, then select a Blend Mode in the Layers Palette. If it is still too strong, lower the Opacity of the new Layer.
Or you could duplicate the layer as above and use the Change to Target Brush, again select a tan colour, lower the opacity of the brush and if it is still too strong, lower the opacity of the new layer.
A few possibilities.
The Makeover Tools> Suntan Brush is similar to the Change to Target brush.
