MPEG-2 doesn't play after VS9 trial ends?

Post by JKBJKW »

Hi

I made an MPEG-2 of a video using the trial version of VS9. The trial ended yesterday, and now the video won't play -- it says it can't download a codec. I had shared copies of the video with several dozen other people, and the 2 I've asked so far have also had trouble getting it to play. So were all these copies, on mine and other people's computers, going to the ULEAD site to get the right codec, and was it set to not work after August 5th? And the most important question: If I buy the actual software, will these copies of the MPEG2 play again?

Thanks very much for any advice. If I'd known that I was sending other people "trial videos" I wouldn't have done it. Perhaps it's all a coincidence that we're having trouble suddenly, after the video played just fine for 2 weeks, but I doubt it. Now I just want to know how to fix it.

was it playing fine on their computers all along?

In order to play the video, you need some mpeg2 decoder. They must expire the decoder when the trial expires -- but if other people have mpeg2 codec on their system, they should be able to play your video ok.

Download a trial of PowerDVD to see if you can then play the video...

Windows and Windows Media Player do not ship with MPEG2 support, and viewing DVDs or other MPEG2-encoded video will require an operable MPEG2 codec. If the codec stops working because its trial period has expired, then you will no longer be able to view the video.
