Re: rotate video from mobilephone - tiny
Hi Brian
Don't Know, I have just ran the sequence again without problems.
As soon as I fIt to width it fills the screen ok.
I assume the clip you are using is clean, that no edits have been applied during earlier tests..
Any edits would of course be retained when dragging from timeline to Library.
Interestingly I used MediaInfo to view the clips properties and that shows 1920 x 1080 as does Windows Explorer.
Media Info does show a setting for rotate showing 90 Degrees which indicates that maybe the files metadata has been set wrong?
Width : 1 920 pixels
Height : 1 080 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 16:9
Rotation : 90°

Thanks again all - your are really helpful,

Your first solution 'customize motion' gets the job done and seems to be the best solution so far (not the easiest). I feel that there must be a better solution
Your second solution is easy but crops some of the video away (20 pixels top/bottom or so) - look at the top the last second of the video. The 3rd plate is missing.
#BrianCee
Maybe I'm doing it wrong but it seems your solution (cropping FX) crops the remote control and the 3rd plate out of the video. And stretch the video (the preview in your pic is stretched).
#lata
Your solution is almost the same as Asik1's second solution (as far as I can see). It also crops out the 3rd plate at the top in the last second. Not a big deal in this small video but it would be nice not cropping the actual scene.
Setting the properties does not seems to change much before adding the video

Re: rotate video from mobilephone - tiny
I don't see 20pix off.
I did a better test.
I took one of my good mts video, rotated it 90 in Virtualdub and made an AVI.
in VS I placed the original on track 1
and the AVI on the overlay, applied rotate and fit to width and a mask to see the difference.
There is a minor shift that could be from other reasons but surly not 20 pix.

Re: rotate video from mobilephone - tiny
Travor was almost there....
- Clip on track 1
- rotate
Now look at the video tab for "resampling... , there select "keep aspect.. NO letter box"
Hey presto!!!
This is the proper way to do it.
**** Well not so, you can't copy paste this, than you must do it one by one.
Sorry, as overlay is the only practical way.

All very very strange - because your idea worked for me asik - except I do not see a third plate
what cutting and pasting are you on about asik - there is no need for any cutting and pasting

It is an issue asik as boilers is suggesting that we're not showing all the video frame with our methods - he is saying something is missing - surely that is an issue

Re: rotate video from mobilephone - tiny
Hi
Copy and Paste Attributes would set all other clips to full screen.
That’s if you have multiple clips to turn and resize.
You are best in Overlay track for Copy and Paste.
and no third plate, not till dinner time anyway

Re: rotate video from mobilephone - tiny
Brian mate, have you tried loading the clip twice? 3 times? or you can add any other vertical stuff?
Well, how you correct them all?
Regarding the 3'rd plate, i guess it's under the table. Boiler made a mistake and you all jump on it.

Well, why don't you list step-by-step " the only practical way." instead of a snippet here and there. Maybe somebody can follow exactly what you are doing.
Re: rotate video from mobilephone - tiny
My appologies. I filmed 2 almost identical videos. I uploaded the first one and thought I deleted the second. Accidently I deleted the one I did upload (2 plates) and have been editing the second (3 plates).
Sorry guys.
But it actually does crop top and bottom when using 'Fit to Width' or 'resampling' (asik's solution). See pic below. On the right before 'fit to width' or 'resampling' and the 3rd plate corner at the top - the left pic is after 'fit to witdh' or 'resampling'. (I've used the video with 3 plates - or what they are called
)
Link to the second video with 3 plates (only visible in the last few frames)

Re: rotate video from mobilephone - tiny
Hi
The second sample is using an aspect ratio of 3 :2 using 720 x 480 not 1920 x 1080.
This may be the reason why being stretched in proportion looses more top and bottom
But you could manually re-size the video but to it to the 16:9 video frame would distort the image.
If you set the first video then use the keyboard up/down arrows you can nudge the frame.
Notice the difference to nudging the second sample
Anyway I now see the third plate.
My third plate is due any minute filled with a sirloin steak, I hope.
Are there any menu settings on the phone that can change the aspect of the recorded video, clearly as Canuck shows (mediaInfo) it has been flagged to rotate through 90
