FastFlick - How to prevent constant rendering?

Post by Juicy »

Hi Folks,

With FlastFlick (v1), is there any way to disable the project rendering with absolutely every minor change? This greatly slows down the flick creation process. I'd love to reorder more than one picture, change the sound settings, and trim multiple clips before having to painstakingly re-render the entire project each step of the way.

Thanks folks!

We may have a bit of a problem here

looking at the information you have provided I am thinking you version of Fast Flick was supplied as a package with Paint Shop Pro - while for most of us here it was supplied along with Videostudio - and we do not have a version 1

I would assume that the Fast Flick programme would be the same in both cases - BUT - in my version of FF there is no facility to make any changes while in the programme - you basically choose a theme and then add you photos and there you are - job done

if I want to make minor changes to the project I need to click on a button which says "Edit in Videostudio" where I can then make changes - which does not render after every change.

So can you explain for our benefit - after you have added your media - how do you make minor adjustments - since you do not have Videostudio - does your version of FF contain a function very few of us have.

Hi Brian,

You are correct; my Fastflick is indeed the bundled software that came with Paintshop.

In using this standalone software package, it is a 3 step process with essentially 3 tabs that you navigate through.

Tab 1 - Select the template.
Tab 2- Add your media (image and video files).
Tab 3 - Save and share (Save the project as a video file)

All the minor adjustments (for example music track, ordering of photos, trimming video files, etc) happen in while in Tab 2, which displays all media in the order it appears in the project (by default the same order it is added to the project when you first create it). Every time you move the order of a single photo, adjust a video clip, change anything in the soundtrack or any other project setting (like smart zoom and pan), the entire project re-renders which, of course, is a very time consuming delay if you are making any number of changes!

Hope that provides at least a little insight. :)

Thx!

Hi

Well I have tried FastFlick provided with VS 8 and I have no problems with pre – rendering

I can change the positions of clips, add audio, text, edit the project in any manor and it does not render.
Only after Share Save do I select Save Movie which renders the project, I also have the option to Edit in Video Studio, this transfers the FastFlick movie to Video Studio to complete the editing.

Juicy

Is there an option via the settings to set or disable render after edits?
Certainly the program provided via Video Studio does not do that.

Post updated

I have added longer video and more images and do see a render after changing things, but it only lasts a second at the most.
If renders are long then maybe its the type of files you are using?

Hmm, thanks for the response and thoughts Lata.

No such option on the Standalone package. There are not many nobs and buttons, but there is no option to deal with rendering.

Unfortunately the renders take more than a second. 30 seconds to minutes depending on the project size. My system meets / exceeds the requirement and recommended specs, which came to mind as a potential factor after you mentioned your rendering taking only moments.

Not sure about the Videostudio component, but this standalone app has a preview window that is always available to play to project in it's current state, which I am guessing is why it has to render constantly (so it can keep this updated), however I'd be more than happy to sacrifice that preview for editing speed and only force a render when I do want a preview.

Quick update..

Broke down and picked up VideoStudio. The Fastflick included with this package is far, far superior to the Fastflick bundled with Paintshop. Almost night and day. Dare I say the Paintshop verson is almost crippleware in comparison due to the constant lengthy rendering.

Boo Corel for failure to disclose this crippleware bundling strategy.

In any case, after I spend another 12 - 24 months learning most (no I won't even try and say all) of the ins and outs of Paintshop, now I'll have something else to do when I'm ready to go beyond fastflick. LoL.
