Messed up my PSP install so can't reinstall X3 or X8 trial

Post by Tomssoft »

I moved my X3 ultimate installation (bought from corel) during an upgrade to Windows 10 (I had run out of space on C main system drive, so I moved everything out)

Now I can't reinstall 3x

I have been through regedit searching for everything ulead and corel removing it.
(Is there any guids I need to search for?)

I figured hat was okay, and I could by X8, but I can't even install the trial (X8 standard)

It errors a 31% with a messagebox stating

"Error"
"We encountered a problem while installing."

And that's how much progress I made :(

What do you mean by 'moved out'? If you have insufficient system drive then yes, you are going to run into trouble. You need a bigger hard drive to accommodate the operating system and also programmes.

I moved my PSP installation to another disk/partition. It is merely my system drive/partition that was running low at the time. Currently my system drive is 120gb with 90gb used by Windows and Microsoft software.

Overall i have well above on 1TB so space as such it not an issue :)

If anyone has experience solving the problem with the error message or who I can contact - please write. I would like to buy X8 if I can get it working

I am wondering if moving my X3 installation to another disk somehow triggered something hanging left? Could e.g. be
- MSI installation - but why does that affect X8?
- Anti piracy measure going haywire after moving X3?

I am assuming that by "moving" you mean that you uninstalled PSP from your system disc and then did a regular installation of the program to another drive. Is that correct? If so, did you use the uninstall tool provided in the sticky topic near the top of this forum to do a clean uninstall? If not, I suggest that you download the tool and use it to uninstall PSP, then try installing again on the drive of your choice. You likely have to temporarily disable your anti-virus to run the uninstall utility because it removes PSP remnants from the registry and anti-virus often stops programs from doing this, because that is also something that some virus programs try to do.

Well, there is no clean utility for X3, only for X4 and upwards

Truth to be told, I think I simply tried moving it hoping X3 would work. That was naive, but at the time I had focus on getting Win10 working. That said, I had not imagined that i would not manually be able to fix the issue (searching the registry and removing values manually and/or using revo)

In 99% of cases you can't simply move a program that has an install feature to install it, only programs that don't need installation. That's because during installation the install program writes information to the system (including the registry) telling it where the program and various other features of the program are located and how those locations are to react to system commands that the user inputs and that the program calls while in use.

So you'll have to uninstall whatever you've installed and start again with a proper installation. Somebody else will be able to tell you if and where you can locate a clean uninstall utility. I don't have X3.

Currently neither installer nor uninstaller will run for x3 / x8 whatever

If anyone knows of x3 cleaner please point me to it!

I have already tried clean what I could find by searching regedit for corel, ulead, paintshop - I will try some more searches later

Still puzzles me why x8 installer won't run - could not imagine that would be influenced by x3 :)

If anyone knows where I can see x8 install log (if any) please point me to it.

Corel should be able to answer those questions for you.

i got no reply from corel, but no matter. I solved it

1)
make sure u try stop and remove protexis services in Windows services control (e.g. sc delete Protexislicensing)

2)
in regedit delete everything (your own responsibility etc.) with regards to

paintshop
protexis
ulead
corel

3)
Then search google for removing protexis and make sure the file are gone

4)
reboot the machine (this really is necessary)

I am now a registered owner of x8
