Okay, MPeg2 is not on the list of things I can convert it to in prism. Is there a better converter I can use?

Well shoot, I just got out the original copies of the videos and realized somehow they are already AVI, and they're the only ones I have. I thought maybe it was just the converter I was using because I did hundreds of home videos from the camera a few weeks ago, but used the batch convert on Corel and they were fine. The Mickey videos I'm using were all converted with the Prism convert though, because I couldn't get Corel to recognize them to convert them. So I don't know why the camera videos that were already AVI are causing problems, but maybe my problem with the Mickey videos is the converter? Although if that's the case, shouldn't it not play normal in the preview too? Plus I did get a few of the done before it started going crazy, it's just that they were all very small screen (as in the black lines on the sides took up 1/4 of each side of my tv, making the picture VERY small!). I've uninstalled and reinstalled Corel twice, thinking that whatever I did to try and fix the widescreen issue caused a problem, but I'm still having that problem now. I don't know what happened.

Hi Meg2001

The black think are caused by converting a 4:3 to 16:9, mybe the converter.
The 4:3 video clip being placed on the 16:9 frame.
It could be that the camera is doing that but that’s a little unusual.

I googled the Nikon Cool Pix P500
The camera can record in a few modes Full HD would be my preference 1920 x 1080
1280 x 720 and 640 x 480 being available

It also has a High Speed mode, this records at 60 fps, but when played back becomes Slow Motion

Can you check your camera settings to see what has been selected

I still think its best for you to upload a sample recorded with the camera.
Do a new short recording, then upload to Drop Box or the like.

The camera does have a knob that turns from HS to HD for recording, but I never us HS because the quality is terrible. There's no way this particular video is HS because it was in a a dark place, and I wouldn't have been able to see it at all if it was in HS. I can do the dropbox thing if you want, but not all videos on my camera do this, as I said there were hundreds I did that are fine, just these 4 for some reason that are from a few years ago. Also, the videos I'm having the black line problem with aren't from the camera, but from the Mickey videos I took off of my DVD recorder. In essence, I'm having two separate problems (trying to do two projects lol).

I just went and looked at the original video's frames per second and it says 25, but I pulled of kids' videos I took this month on my camera and they say 29 frames per second. If this is the problem, as you thought before, how do I fix that? I don't know why it would be different, they're from the same camera :(

Ok, I just looked through some stuff and come to the conclusion that maybe those videos didn't come from my camera, they may have been taken by someone else and given to me. In which case I have no idea what was used :( I assumed they had come from my camera because everything else I have did, but these videos have me in them so it's entirely possible they're from someone else's camera. I looked at the Mickey Mouse videos, too, and they also have 29 frames per second, if that info makes any difference to that problem. I think I'm going to uninstall the program yet again and see if that helps. Last time I managed to get a few videos burned off before it went wonky again. Those were different videos, though, so I don't know that it will help.

I'm uploading one of the videos I'm having a problem with to Dropbox right now. It's taking a minute. How do I make it so you can find it?

Hi
The “I’m the only one” sample is 16:9 using 1280 x 720 frame size and is indeed AVI using Microsoft DVT-DVD decoder -- the aspect shows as ok when viewing the preview screen
Add that to a 16:9 DVD project and I am able to render to Mpeg2, which is suitable to burn a DVD, the render time was very / very slow.
Strange that it should use 25fps.

The micky mouse has more problems……………….
First it is only using a frame size of 352 x 480, that is very small indeed and will impact on quality when viewed on a larger screen.
It is 4:3 but for some reason has been stretched vertically to form a portrait shape.
Or the camera was turned through 90 degrees to record the clip, It may have been recorder using a mobile phone.

All video should be recorded in landscape view / widescreen / letterboxed, call it what you like but the recording should be horizontal not vertical.

However I was able to add this sample to a 4:3 project using DVD project settings at 29fps 720 x 480
Again suitable to burn a dvd.
Render times seemed slow, but then again the video is 54 minutes, rendering at 56% and still counting????

My final video ended up as 2Gb

Meg 2001

Clearly there is a lot of confusion as to the origins of the various video samples.
Can you use your camera to record a new sample, remember landscape aspect.
Set the camera to use 1920 x 1080, that is the full HD settings the camera is capable of.

I will try to burn the song as you said you did, thank you! The Mickey video wasn't taken from a phone. I recorded it from TV to a DVR, and then recorded it from the DVR to my DVD recorder. Then took it off the dvd onto my computer. I don't know why it shows up funny.

HiMeg2001

Change Settings - Project Properties to use:-
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 6000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

1 / Add the Micky Mouse to the top track, double click to select clip and options panel
2 / Attributes tab – Distort Clip
3 / Right click preview screen to set Fit To Screen
4 / Share – Same as Project Properties

The resulting file can be used to burn a dvd

5 / Start a new project
6 / Share Create disc DVD, this opens the burner window
7 / Add Video top left option, add the video rendered in 4 above
8 / If you wish choose to burn a ISO rather than a disc.
9 / Play the ISO using VLC Media Player
If ok use Tools -- Burn from disc Image ISO ---this will burn the iso to disc

Hope this helps

Ok, so to burn the song I need to convert it to an MPEG file? I am doing that now and will try burning it. So did yours play in a dvd player okay then?

Also, on the Mickey Mouse video, idk what an ISO file is? Will it play on a regular dvd player?

This thread is very confusing, Meg201. It is too bad that you are trying to troubleshoot 2 different project in one thread. Your two problems are not really related as far as I can tell. It really makes it hard to follow what is going on.

Perhaps one of the moderators can split this thread into 2 different ones - one for each project you are working on.
