DVD playback is in slow motion
I have Video Studio Pro X6. I have been using it a lot to do some home video projects this month, and it worked fine for awhile. Then all of a sudden the videos were playing in slow motion when played back on a dvd player. The audio was fine, but the picture was dragging BAD. It's fine in the preview on Video Studio, too, but somehow it gets messed up between previewing it and playing it in the dvd player. The files are AVI files, and no changes have been made to them. Sometimes it goes okay still, but mostly it winds up in slow motion. Also, I have some videos that are in widescreen (this is the one without the black on the sides, right?), but when I transfer them into Video Studio they suddenly only take up half of the screen, even in the preview. When I change to 4:3 or 16:9, there is no noticeable difference at all. I think I want 4:3, right? However, when I make that change nothing happens. I saw a youtube video on how to do it yourself, so I go to attributes, distort video, and then stretch it back out, but then it shows slow motion in the preview. I'm sure this is all connected somehow, but I'm just not getting it. I will add that I have some videos that I have done that don't need the stretching out, but still come out in slow motion. Please help!!

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
If the videos are widescreen then they should be 16:9 - that is the widescreen spec
but we can't really help as we do not know any thing about your video - please put one of the videos you have burned to DVD in the timeline of Videostudio - then RIGHT click oner it and choose 'properties' from the pop-up.
then copy the properties box and post it here so that we can see what we are dealing with

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
Okay, I just tried to play it back on the computer, and apparently I don't have a program that will play them. Which is weird, because I have Quicktime. When I open the file on the dvd, it says it's a VOB file, though, so maybe that's why? It wants me to convert it again to play it on here. I am VERY technology challenged lol, so when you say to put the video on the timeline here, I am no seeing where/how to do that?

Okay I did figure out what you mean, but when the properties box shows up it doesn't let me copy anything. It says:

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
Hi Meg 2001
There is some confusion here……….
A DVD does indeed have Vob files but they are basically Mpeg2 not AVI
There are two types / formats of disc, a Video DVD and a Data Disc.
The latter can have any files saved to it including Avi.
The Video DVD has files burned to it as a Movie, this creates a complex filing structure allowing our players to read and play the disc.
Where did you get the disc from?, did you burn the disc using Video Studio?
Try this
1 / Place the disc in your computer drive, close any programs that try to play the disc.
2 / Start Video Studio
3 / Right Click the timeline and choose Import Digital Media
4 / Browse the list for the disc drive, expand the list for the TS Folder
5 / a window should open showing the Titles and Chapters, choose all Titles (place a tick in the small box)
6 / Select a Working folder to save the imported files.
7 / once imported they should also populate the timeline.

Are you able to import the files from the disc?

It is also strange that your files have a framerate of 25fps - for use in the USA you should have 30fps (29.97 )

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
The video originally came from my camera, but I had to convert it to AVI for Video Studio to recognize it. I then burned it to that dvd, so yes the dvd file properties I gave are from that and came from burning it with Corel. I did import the video from the dvd to Corel, and it worked. Am I suppose to do something else with it?

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
Can you clarify please - when you say you burned it to DVD - did you do that inside Videostudio by going via the "Share >> Create disc" option - or some other way

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
Yes, I used Video Studio, share, create disc. In the preview inside there, it was fine. But once on dvd it was in slow-motion. And I just checked, on the timeline where I imported those digital media from the dvd itself, it is also slow motion, so it's definitely the dvd, I'm just not sure how it happened.

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
Hi Meg 2001
Using the new clips that you imported from the disc, right click a clip on the timeline and choose properties., what are they?
They should be Mpeg 2 --- 720 x 576 (480)
Do you have the original files from the camera, if not do you have the AVI files?
If you have to convert the cameras video in order to import to VS you should convert to Mpeg2, ultimately that will be your output format used to burn a disc.
Brian mentions your frame rate, I agree that should be 29.97 not 25fps assuming your source video is NTSC. (US standard)
Not all DVD players in the US can play Pal type DVD which uses 25fps, although you should not have a problem playing via the PC.

Can you also tell us the brand and model of the camera, please?

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
I do have the original videos from the camera. The camera is a Nikon Cool Pix P500. The other videos that I'm having the same problem with aren't from my camera though, they're Mickey Mouse episodes that I had recorded and burned with my DVD recorder. They came in as VOB files and I converted them to AVI, but am having the same problem with them.

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
Hi Meg 2001
I suspect the problem is with the conversion to AVI, Avi is just a container holding the video stream, there are some 800 varieties of Avi.
You should convert the original video to Mpeg2, we could advise on the settings but need the properties of the originals (from the camera) to be more accurate.
What program are you using to convert the video files?
Your program should give details of the source file.
You may be best uploading a sample to a sharing site , DropBox or Windows One Drive being suitable.
As for your DVD recorder that will probably record to Mpeg2 so you should not need to convert the video?

Re: DVD playback is in slow motion
The camera initially records them as MOV files. The converter I'm using is Prism. I'll try and convert them to Mpeg2 and see what happens. If it will let me, anyway, it's the free version so I can only do so much on it.
