Vs X5 to VS X8.5

Post by oneview0505 »

Hello everyone, Jerry here.

So I just went to VS 5 to VS X8.5 today this morning.
Breakdown on that.

Uninstall VS5 and then ran Glary Utilities to look for any shortcuts and loose Reg files still there. This GU program is what I use to make I get any loose files and stuff like that. So I can do a clean install of the new replacement program.

So now I install VS 8.5 and all the bonus content and no issues and the program open up like a champ. So 2 things I notice so far.

1) In VS 5 in the transitions that was broken down by category and with ton transitions. In VS 8.5 I do not see a breakdown more like a one page of transitions and a short list it is.

2) I see this posting I believe but still not sure how to fix my issue. I have VS 5 project files to work on tweak sometimes. So when I open a file VS 8.5 just hangs there and I have to kill the program. If I drag the project file. It is just one large file in the timeline, showing nothing for to edit of even the overlay timelines and audio. So what is the correction to fix this?

So to sum is up. Missing's transitions that VS 5 had and VS 5 project files opening in VS 8.5 program.

My system info
Win 7
I5 with 8 gigs of ram.

Any more info you need from me let me know. Thanks everyone!

Ok, but I would have 2 programs? Why?

I would think it can open VS 5 project files or there would be a conversion kit to upward to VS 8.5. Also so they remove a lot of the transitions so now I have less. It would be categories and within that category different ways for the transitions.

Example

Category Fade:
Fade up
Fade down
Fade left
Fade right

If you are dragging the .vsp file into the timeline then it will appear as one big block - that's the way it should be - in order to see all the component parts of your project then you need to go to "File >> open " then browse to the .vsp and select it and click OK - it will then load correctly

have you checked all the transitions which are available by using the drop down in the library pane (see below)

What happens if you click on a .vsp file in Windows File Manager? Does it open X8.5 and show all the component parts correctly?

In any case, X8.5 should certainly open X5 projects normally, without any tweaks or 'conversion kits'... Video Studio has always been backward-compatible in that sense i.e. newer versions being able to open project files made in older versions. The reverse is not true, however.

How many transitions do you have? I have just counted my own in X8.5 and there are 128 in all -- more than enough, in my opinion...

Hi

There may be problems in running X5 vsp in X8 especially if you have applied Smart Music.
X8 does not use Smart Music, but an alternative ………….
But you should get an error message when opening the project, and indeed should open ok.

Also If you have used X5 sample files (clips from the library) or “instant projects” then they would have been removed from your pc when uninstalling X5, trying to open the VSP may request re-links to those files?
Uninstalling X5 may not have been a good option till you completed the projects.

Corel Video Studio X8 does allow us to open project within existing projects, this will allow us to view all clips within the project.
First import the VSP to the library then drag to the timeline.
However if you are having problems opening the vsp’s in the normal way (file open project) then all options will have similar problems.

Ok I clicking in the same place as even I did in VS5 see the pic, it almost as if the transitions didn't load. So do I have to reload VS 8.5 Also do I have to reload the Bonus Content and NewBlue stuff?

Well obviously something has gone wrong if you only see Favourites and Overlay Transitions in that dropdown menu. So reinstalling is certainly an option.

However, first I suggest you close X8.5 then go to C:\Users\[Your Name]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\VideoStudio Pro (x64) (if you have the 64 bit version installed) and change the name of the "18.0" folder to something like "18.0_OLD". Restart X8.5 and it should rebuild your library of effects, filters, transitions etc. All the transitions should now be there. If they are not, then yes, I would reinstall the whole thing.

Previously I too had erroneously assumed that VS X8.5 could successfully open and relink VSP files created by previous versions of VS. However, there is a Speed/Time-lapse bug in VS X8.5 that prevents successfully opening and relinking of VSP files created by VS X7 if clips had the Speed/Time-lapse filter applied. There are probably other issues that can arise when trying to open VSP files created in X5, X6 and X7 in X8.5.

This means that since I've VSP files created in X5, X6, X7 and X8, I must keep all versions of VS installed to successfully open and relink all my VSP files, i.e. there is no guarantee of backward compatibility when opening old VSP files in the latest version of VS which is surprising but the case. This was discussed at length at http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=57704

Hi Jerry

CVSX8 program is either Pro or Ultimate, can you confirm which version you have purchased?
Both will have a minimum of two files for the installation of the program,
1 / VideoStudioUltimateX8_64bit_1Main.exe
2 / VideoStudioX8_2Contents.exe

For the Ultimate there is a further Bonus file
3 / VideoStudioUltimateX8_64bit_3Bonus

In addition the Bluray authoring also needs an extra file, at a small cost.
Required if you intend to burn BD
4 / VideoStudioX8_Blu-ray.exe

Can you confirm you have installed both 1 and 2 as above
Their names may differ as I believe Corel are now providing the 8.5 version.

Please ignore any files you may have downloaded from the Corel Guide - DoMore section.
I particularly refer to the Bonus Content package which is not part of the programs installation.
