saved .pspimage file not editable in PSP8

Post by Old Gray Mare »

Hello!

I just joined and this is my first post. As my userid suggests, I'm an old gal and would appreciate some help explained in simple terms.

Yes, my PSP is version 8...only use it now & then and I enjoy the results.

My problem/dilemma is that I saved a file as .pspimage and PSP opens it, but there is no way to edit it. I'm making barn signs for my horses and have a new horse, so I need to make an identical style sign to match the others. The file opens as a background image and I truly don't know what steps to take to enable changes to the text. I want to change the text to another horse's name. Can you all help?

I tried uploading the image, but can't figure out how to get it to work.

Thanks!

Can you first please clarify if you are talking about PSP 8 or X8? The latter is really version 18 (Roman X for 10 plus 8 )... The X is important. If not, hopefully someone who recalls version 8 might be able to help...

It almost sounds like you may have saved the pspimage file as a flattened file and not with the layers intact. Is that a possibility?

Hi Ken,

It's the old version PSP 8, probably from 2001? I just use it whenever I want to make something nice like a name sign for the horses.

Thanks for asking!

Hi Kathy,

I have no idea what that means! I recall saving the project while it was being made using the "save as" option and chosing the .pspimage format. Each letter was an idividual entity and I was able to enhance each one with special effects. I purposely saved an active file as .pspimage so I could edit it if I needed to in the future.

I also saved a copy as .jpeg for my old printer's software (I double-checked to make sure it wasn't the file I just opened). I have a couple of signs that I made and each one, in the .pspimage format, is uneditable.

How do I get it to not be "flattened" if that's the case?

Thanks!!

If it's truly flattened, then you can't unflatten it.

To flatten means to combine all of the layers into one single layer. This overwrites pixels and makes text uneditable. It's just like a JPEG. It is what it is.

Depending on how the sign is made you can probably erase or clone out the current text and start a new text layer. But if it's truly flat that's the best we can offer.

If you want to upload an image for testing you can upload it to a file host like dropbox, onedrive, or Google Drive. Or directly here in the forums.

To upload the file to the forums you need to start a reply. Under the "Post a Reply" section you'll see a blue area with "Options" and "Upload attachment" tabs. Click on the "Upload attachment" tab and you'll see options for Filename: and File Comments:

Click the "Browse" button next to FileName and it'll open up a "Open File" dialog find the file you want to upload. Select it and hit "OK". Next to the filename is a button that says 'Add the file" click this. the forums will upload the document and reload the page.

Next click Submit on the reply. The file and any reply you made will be added to the topic and we can download it.
