Re: Import MKV
The whole situation is very strange - i have the Haali splitter installed and the VLC player
All the clips play in the VLC player and quite annoyingly in Windows Movie Maker. which will also output them as HD mp4
but Videostudio X8.5 refuses to recognise them in any way and does not show the MKV option in the available input options

Re: Import MKV
Test 4 has something wrong with it and won't play on any of my various players. Unlike the others, it also doesn't show an image in its thumbnail in File Explorer, only a standard icon.
As I said above, while X8.5 can handle and edit MKV -- at least on my computer -- it cannot output in that format.
Totally mystified, Brian, as to what is happening on yours!

Re: Import MKV
Try drag & Dropping one of the test mkv files on the time line, Brian. My VS handles the mkv's just fine. No pop-up message when inserting one in a blank timeline, nor is the share option to create one like the first video file available. However rendering a mp4 file is fine... Al

Re: Import MKV
Hi
Just wondering if there was a difference between Windows 10 and 7
So I have just tried using the MKV files on the laptop running Windows 7, no problems except for that Test 4
The program CVSX8 has no patches installed, it’s the original program.
Unless it’s a windows 8.1 issue?

Re: Import MKV
You could be on to something there Trevor
I have just started up the desktop which runs windows 7 - and every thing is perfect there - MKV appears in the 'all formats' list and I can get the mkv's into the timeline by any method at all and edit them
maybe it is Windows 8.1 ??

Doesn't work (on Win 8.1) as soon as the dragged file goes over the VS window the symbol changes to a No Entry sign and releasing the mouse key does absolutely nothing - the file just does not appear.

Re: Import MKV
That makes it all the more mysterious. I have only updated this computer to Win 10 from Win 8.1 in August this year. However, I downloaded that set of MKV tests several months earlier than that, and they worked even then on Win 8.1 and before I upgraded VS X8 to X8.5....

Re: Import MKV
I am running W8.1 and VS X8.5 and have no trouble with any mkv file. Only the test4.mkv file does not load but then it does not play in any software player.

Re: Import MKV
Whilst I can play MKV files in VLC and Windows Media Player, I cannot import into VSX8.5, get 'file format mismatch error' also unable to drag and drop into VS,

HOORAY
OK I have been searching and experimenting and finally
I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8 Setup Files\Setup\RunTime\Matroska where I found a file called 'Matroskasplitter.exe' - I ran that file and it seemed to install a programme.
Then I opened up VS X8.5 and VIOLA - MKV appears in the 'all formats' list and I can insert/import - drag and drop .mkv files to the timeline - play and edit them.
so - did my original installation not install the splitter correctly for some reason.
My problem is solved - may work for you Robert . asik1 , pepegota and corestar - if your still with us

Re: Import MKV
What did you select as the destination folder Brian, the option I am given is C:\Program Files (x86)\FreeTime\FormatFactory\FFModules\Filters\Haali\MatroskaSplitter and it is already installed in those locations

Re: Import MKV
Issue is now resolved, can import MKV files into VSX8.5, problem is, I don't know what I did to make it work, just kept playing around with it, then it just started to work, test 4 does not work but that file is corrupt

Good to hear things are working, as you say Brian maybe the file did not install correctly, strange things computers.
Each of the sample test videos have some different elements not that I understand the difference.
Test 4 seems has “Live stream recording” added, that may cause problems for video editors.
So I don’t think it’s a "corrupt" sample, just does not work for VS
