Import MKV
I tried importing an MKV file to edit, but, it doesn't seem to import.
Is editing MKV supported? Is there a list available to see the supported video files?
Thanks.

Re: Import MKV
I see you have VS X8.5, which is supposed to support the import (though not output) of MKV files. This was only a recent addition and is mentioned in the promotional blurb for X8.5 on
http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/produc ... pro/#tab=1:
Do you have a program which can give you the actual properties of the MKV clips you are dealing with? If you have the freeware VLC media player, for instance, then with a clip playing in it, if you click on the Tools menu it will give you Media Information. There could be something specific about your MKV that X8.5 does not like -- though I would be interested to know what it might be since some of my samples have unusual combinations of features, including non-standard frame sizes, yet play quite well.

Personally, I don't deal much with MKV, but I have quite a few samples of it covering both AVCHD/H.264 and mp4 formats. (As you would be aware, MKV is a wrapper extension, enclosing a variety of other video formats.) And I have no trouble at all importing them into X8.5.Enhanced!
More formats supported. Enjoy more compatibility with import support for MKV files, which act as multimedia containers that can hold video, audio and subtitles in a file.

MKV cannot be imported in VS Pro X8. I tied it to no avail.

Re: Import MKV
That *is* strange. In mine, it is definitely there as a separate category in the dropdown menu under All Formats.
However, I am not sure if VS actually installs the Matroska codec which runs the format. You can certainly find it at the MKV codec site (http://www.mkvcodec.com/ ) Installing the Haali Media Splitter will also do the same thing and IIRC may have been the way I first introduced MKV to this computer well before X8.5 ever appeared (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/haa ... litter.htm ) The Splitter also enables MKV playback in Windows Media Player!

Re: Import MKV
I did not install any extra codes for mkv and the mkv format is listed under All Formats (VS X8.5). It may have been added by the VLC player
This is what appears under All Format

Re: Import MKV
Yep... exactly the same for me. And you are probably right about the VLC player since it plays just about everything. In that case, I have a double whammy as I have not only VLC but also the Haali splitter...

It's not a clear cut.
I can play MKV in VLC but can't get it into X8

Re: Import MKV
Hi
I see the list exactly as Canucks image which includes the MKV format, and like canuck have not installed any extra codecs
I have not tried to use MKV video because I don't have a sample MKV

Re: Import MKV
did you not download the suite of MKV test files when we discussed using .mkv files a while back Trevor
You can get a suite of test files here - - http://sourceforge.net/projects/matrosk ... p/download

Re: Import MKV
Hi
Well I am able to load all test clips except Test 4.
They do appear to play ok and I was able to rendered / converted Test 1 to Mpeg4 1280 x 720.
Although I can play and convert the files I am unable to create MKV files.
I was using VSX8, VSX7 does not recognise the MKV files
I do have Haali Media Splitter as mentioned by Ken, although that was installed with the Video Studio X8 program.
The samples do seem familiar so maybe I have downloaded these before, senior moment I guess.
