X7 Suddenly won't crop

Post by rtwigley »

I've restarted, checked for updates, checked for patches, etc. I go to crop a selection, and nothing happens. Any ideas???

Not trying to sound insulting here but I have to ask.

Do you have an actual active selection? Crop to selection uses an active selection to define the crop location and size. If you want to do just a regular crop you want to use the Crop tool.

If you do have an active selection. Have you tried resetting the workspace?

Close PSP. When opening PSP hold the SHIFT key. It'll ask if you want to reset the workspace to factory defaults. Once you reset it'll be like you had just installed a fresh copy of PSP. So any workspace changes you've made will be lost.

No offense taken. I've been using PSP products since like 2. I'm pretty proficient in it. It's the same thing I've always done, just won't work. I tried free handing, rectangle, etc. I'll try the tip you said about resetting to defaults and see if that helps. Thanks!

Okay, so the reset did not work. I don't think I've ever been so frustrated. Everything else in the toolbar is working fine. Except the selections tools. I select what I want, and instead of the dotted lines that usually appear, nothing shows up. I checked to see if I could even crop, just in case, but that's not highlighted at all.

I recall a similar crop/selections issue (earlier PSP version) where one of my own saved Workspace files was wonky and went to war against an automatic WINDOWS update. I enjoyed several hours of ugly (with cursing) whilst sorting it all out. There are many issues that can originate around Workspace files. Lots. Both the kind that we save ourselves, and also those that the application saves for us. I use my Workspace files like most folks eat popcorn at movies, and discovered long ago those little puppies are THE most delicious, and also the most suspicious.

At this point, if it is from some outside interference use SYSTEM RESTORE to return Windows back to a prior state when your PSP was still okay.

If it's a fouled file inside PSP and that workspace reset offered by LeviFiction didn't do the trick (though it usually does), then the only simple option remaining is the full uninstall/reinstall.

In the subject you state that X7 won't crop. In this post you say the selection tools don't work and no dotted lines show up. Every once in a while I see the same thing - - - because sometime before I had selected Selections/Hide Marquee. Could this be your problem?

No ideas about the cropping.
