Hi
New to the forum but have been using Videostudio for years.
Currently doing a project using X8 on Windows 10 and it's been performing fantastically for the past couple of months.
However, now the application won't open and I get an error message to say that another user on my PC has Videostudio open. However, although there are other users set up on my PC, none of these are logged in. I have re-booted the PC several times to no avail. The problem occurs if I try to open it from either the desktop shortcut or the actual program itself. I've not made any changes to the PC in any way and as I say it's been running perfectly fine until yesterday.
This couldn't have come at a worse time as the project is nearing completion, so if anyone has any ideas on what the issue is and how to fix it I'd be very grateful.
Videostudio X8 will no longer open

I've never heard this error message before. Can you click on the project file to open the program? Have you tried running it as Admin (though that should not be necessary)? Have you thought about uninstalling and reinstalling (that would not affect the project file or its contents)? Have you logged on as one of the other accounts and tried opening there?

I e tried all of those things, but no success.
?what I have done today is roll-back Windows 10 to a previous restore point and that seems to have sorted it, although I can't understand what caused the issue in the first place and can't be certain it won't re-occur.

As I said above, I've not heard anyone else report anything similar, and quite a few of our users -- including me -- have upgraded to Win 10 and have not had similar problems with VS. Have you upgraded to VS X8.5 by the way? You mention X8, but Corel released an update pack which they say was, amongst other things, designed to make VS totally compatible with Win 10...

Re: Videostudio X8 will no longer open
I have had this happen when VS stops abnormally; in this case it leaves some background processes running. To correct this one needs to bring up Task Manager and end these processes, or restart. However, since you did restart and it did not fix it I don't know. My guess from your post is that latest update from Windows 10 is causing some issues.

Re: Videostudio X8 will no longer open
This sounds like the same problem I have just experienced BUT I am using VS7 Ult Pro, under Windows 7 64-Bit.
I had been using the software happily since May 2014, was 7/8 way through an edit project, had been working on this project for about 4 days with NO ISSUES. When starting again to carry on with the edit on Saturday, clicked the VSP project file (as I always do) and got messages saying VS could not be found (the program).
After a puzzling few minutes, I started to browse using START / All Programs / the into /Corel and VS7 where the folder showed as EMPTY !!
So used Exploere to browse the Program Files (x86) folder and here again the Corel Video Studio X7 folder was empty.
SO now I am starting to worry - I have raised a Corel Support Ticket and as yet have not had any response.
This has never happened before and I use the VS7 software routinely every week, with no issues.
Sadly when I bought VS7 Pro Ultimate I selected the download option as I was in a hurry to move OFF of VS6.
My PROJECT files are all safely intact thank goodness.
Since VS6 is STILL installed on my computer, I tried to use THAT version to carry on with some DVD burning needed for my project (really the last thing I needed to complete). Everything seemed OK UNTIL I kicked-off the BURN step, the software chugged for about a MINUTE then came up with "[257.0.0] Convert step got some problems" which is not very helpful.
So currently I am unable to complete my project, and await any guidance from Corel Support.
I also would like to RE-DOWNLOAD the VS7 Pro Ult UPGRADE files agaain, but when I go into my Corel Account I cannot see anywhere where it is possible to download again software that you have already bought - and to make matters worse my ORDER HISTORY shows a BLANK and there is a message saying Corel are currently upgrading their own site and History can be found elsewhere BUT CANNOT.
So if anyone thinks these symptoms are SIMILAR, and/or can guide me as to how and where I go to get a fresh download of the VS7 Pro Ult pack I would be very grateful. Hopefully Corel Support mat enlighten me but I cannot wait too much longer.
Thanks for reading my diatribe.
