Thumbnails in menu won't adjust to my setting

Post by JoReneA »

Using MF4DC, when I change the thumbnail when creating a menu (by adjusting the place in the file where I want the thumbnail to be), it shows correctly in the preview screen, but when I burn the DVD, it reverts to the first image in the file...the one that originally was shown. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution. (I am not using the video menu option, just the still menu.)

Thanks!

Is that a motion button, or a still button :?:

You can set a still button to a specific picture (not the chapter point picture), but for a motion button the motion will start where the chapter point starts.

As I posted, I am using the STILL button...no motion. But the thumbnail won't burn where I set it. I tried it twice and also tried burning first to an ISO file. In all cases it reverted to the first image in the file.

sorry, I misread your post on the still vs. motion

another sorry is that I tested this, and it seems in MF4DC, you can adjust the start position of a motion button (not that you are using motion buttons, but just thought I would clear that up too).

Which method are you using to change the thumbnail -- in the step where you are setting the chapters, or in the menu step, or other :?: I did it in the MENU step -- I double-clicked on the thumbnail, and changed it to a different frame in the title, and burned that to my hard drive -- it works when playing back using PowerDVD (I didn't burn to disc though).

I made the change in the menu step by double clicking the thumbnail and using the slider to change the frame, just as you did. As I said, in the ULead preview window that comes up next, it showed correctly, but when I burned it, it used the first frame of the video. If others (like you) have not had that problem, it must be something unique to my setup. Has anyone else had the problem?

I will like to check that if maybe a bug.
On the output disk burning module there is an icon on the bottom that
says "Clean out temporary Files" or something like that.

Maybe try that first before burning.
What's it there for? Must be some reason.

George,
If you select "Burn Disk" only and not dvd folders if you open up the
working folder MF creates the video_ts folder on the harddisk in a
temporary directory before burning. All the burning process is doing
is copying that video_ts folder(in the temp directory located under the
working directory) to the dvd. It's deleted on the harddisk
after the burning is complete. So, it really should be the same as
burning a dvd (what your doing). It's not burning "On the Fly"
You can't see this occuring if you don't monitor the directories under
the working directory.
I have a dual monitor setup that makes monitoring easier.

An Update: I tried changing the beginning thumbnail on a MOTION menu and it seemed to work ok...it burned to disk with the correct starting point. Next time I'll try the still menu and clean out the temp files first, just in case that could be a cause. I'll post again after I try that, but it might be a few days.

The thumbnail doesn't define the starting point of the video.
It's only grabbing that frame you select to make a thumbnail with.

Just to let you know that it does work for some.

I have burnt a number of DVD's, using as a thumbnail an image about 15 minutes into the chapter, without any problems. (Procedure as you described).

A re-install may be worth trying.
