Opening X4 project files in X8

Hello.

Is there a way of opening X4 project files in X8?

Or converting X4 files to a newer version that opens in X8?

Long story short, I did a project on my desktop PC using VideoStudio Pro X4. I'm currently away from home and only have access to my laptop (which doesn't have X4, but does have all my video files, images etc). I've just installed a trial version of X8, but when I try opening the X4 project file, it either crashes X8, or nothing happens at all.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Normally there should be very few problems opening X4 projects in X8 - I quite often open old projects with the latest version and apart from an occasional missing image which is no longer available all works fine

I suspect the problem may be that you are using the trial version - the X8 trial is a severely crippled version of the programme with quite limited functionality and it is possible that you did something in X4 that the X8 trial cannot do - you really need the full version of X8 to be successful

Brian you are correct, CVSX8 trial version cannot open existing VSP files, at least that’s what I found when trialling the program, so yes limited functionality……

Indecently installing the full program will not open existing VSP’s till SP2 ( 8.5 patch) has been applied.
I don’t think we can apply patches to the trial, although I have never tried……………..

I can't really afford to buy the full version of X8, so I guess I'll have to use my desktop PC and the full version of X4 on there.

price dropped to 66$ on amazon, it may drop a bit more as X9 might show-up in few months.
There is an evolution tools difference in X8 vs X4.
