X8 does not like naps.

X8 does not like naps.
Any time the computer goes to sleep with X8 remaining open, as the computer wakes back up, the application crashes.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
Interesting. I wonder if this is somehow related to the memory usage issue I'm encountering during batch processing. I'm not tech savvy enough with RAM and operating system mechanics to know how it works exactly, but PSP X8 doesn't seem to release memory very easily. Anyhow, I've set my laptop not to sleep.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
No, it doesn't.
If I keep PSPX8 open and go off and do other things on my PC then come back to PSP it has become unresponsive. I check Task Manager and the red text says it's Not responding. I wait, but nothing will make it work again and I have to close the programme. I am wondering if it is something within my system that causes this, as it's only been happening since the latter part of Win 8.1 and now Win 10. I do not allow my PC to go to sleep but my PC does go quiet and then when I click on, say a folder my PC comes to life. I do not know how to change this.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
BTW, It's not just naps.
Practically any program usage beyond and hour or so, and shortly after closing the program and attempting to get on with life: Here comes a brand new hysterical PSP error message squealing over how PaintShop Pro is "no longer working, and, what do you want do about that?".
I already know it is no longer working since I quite intentionally already closed it, and what I want to 'do about it' cannot be said aloud in mixed company.
I purchased x8 because of some very annoying text bugs in x3 and only ever bought x3 for the KPT Collection which of course no longer works in x8. The merry go round just keeps spinning faster and faster. I'm currently forced to run 2 limping versions of PaintShop Pro just to make it through the night. This sort of limping sadness is so very wrong. What's needed most at this desk now, is a tall frosty something with a kick and a PATCH.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
Quite often -- too often? -- PSP has in fact not fully shut down and an element of it is running in the background. That is probably the reason you get that message. Open Task Manager and look in Background Processes for an entry for Corel PaintShop Pro. (It's alphabetically listed so should be easy and quick to find if its there.) Select it and click on the End Process button in bottom right of the Task Manager, or right click it and select End Process.pnjnca wrote:Here comes a brand new hysterical PSP error message squealing over how PaintShop Pro is "no longer working, and, what do you want do about that?"

Re: X8 does not like naps.
It is where I go and what always gets done. While not hard to task manager that whole issue away
the real point in posting this follow-up is that it is going to happen over and over again, and then it will happen again some more. It should not.
I thank God for workspace files because without them this whole mess would be lot more uncomfortable than it is. All these improper shutdowns via task manager is like shooting PaintShop Pro in the head with a bullet-full of amnesia. Changes to the workspace are not recorded thus not remembered.
I used to enjoy a little drama and some life on the edge -> not so much anymore. Give me software that works at least most of the time and I'm a happy camper. This should not be happening. Oh well. Thanks for the reply Ken.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
I have no issues of this kind with X8, not now and not during the months of beta testing.
I power up X8 in the morning and shut it down late at night.
I wonder if there is something on your system that is interfering.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
Long shot but it could have something to do with the Scratch Disc setting disrupting disc access when in sleep/hibernate. Turn it off & see.

You could very well be correct. I un-tcked scratch disc and PSPX8 has not frozen or gone into not responding!rondo wrote:Long shot but it could have something to do with the Scratch Disc setting disrupting disc access when in sleep/hibernate. Turn it off & see.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
What I did:
On Windows 8.1 laptop.
1. Opened PSPX8
2. Loaded an image
3 Minimised to task bar
4. Went to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings and changed Put the Computer to sleep to 2 minutes. and Saved changes. Closed window
5. Brought up the X8 window with image and left til the laptop went to sleep after 2 minutes.
6. Clicked to reawaken. No crash, no error message, all proceeds normally.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
That's good hartpaul but I'm using Windows 10 and I thought there may be an issue with that and PSPX8. However, as I said before, since un-ticking Scratch Disc PSP has behaved itself very well.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
Thanks trueblue, My apologies for not being specific in my answer, but I was attempting to answer the OP who from the profile does not have Windows 10, but Windows 7. My reply was to emphasise that it has not or does not occure on my Windows 8.1 system.
I will check on my Windows 7 system when I can get it out in absence of a solved comment from "pnjnca"
Update: Have tried with Windows 7 professional. Put the computer to sleep in 2 ways and again on wakening no crashing . X8 still operational.

Re: X8 does not like naps.
Just saw the newer posts and ran to un-tick my scratch disc then held my breath to let nature take its course. Sadly, it was a no go. It did not work on this Windows 7 professional. Same error as before. Oh well. Thanks to you all for continuing the conversation.
