Subtitle button grayed-out?

Hi all. I have some AVIs that I captured with another S/W package (not DVD workshop). I want to add subtitles to them, but the subtitle options are grayed-out. Any idea why? I couldn't find anything on the forum about it.

what version of the software are you running (Full, Express, Trial, ES, other?)

What type of disc are you creating -- DVD, SVCD, VCD?

Sorry for the delay. It's the full version. v2.2 I'm creating a DVD. In the edit window I have an option to change audio or subtitle track and either one or both of those menus is grayed-out.

I'm an ultra-n00b at this so I'm probably not doing something right.
