Can't create trusted psp script with vista

Post by morgandy »

I have been trying every suggestion on the web for workarounds to create trusted scripts on my vista machine....I am locked out of the documents and settings folder, and that is the only place corel will let me create a trusted one. I just tried the method of creating several layers of folders to save the script in that was posted here, and that did not work. In my script I am also attempting a batch rename script at the end of each file processed. Is that even valid within a script? I have to get this script going so anything at all will help greatly. I know all about the folders having 'link points' now, and all the property settings to get around the documents and settings folder...none of those changes are working.

Thanks much!!

I've moved your post to the PSP Scripting forum as being more specifically appropriate to your problem. There are also a number of enthusiastic scripting experts lurking there!

I'd be more concerned that you don't have access to the documents and settings folder. That tends to be where all files are saved. Why are you locked out? Have you tried changing the permissions? There are numerous options to do so.

Anyway, if you can access any folder you can tell PSP to use it as a trusted script location. I've done this with a flash drive before.

On a flash (thumb) drive I created a folder called PSPScripts. Then inside PSP I went to File -> Preferences -> File Locations. Selected "Scripts-Trusted" from the left side. Then added a new folder location pointing to the thumbdrive and my folder. The script then shows up in my script list and will run just fine.

First, I would suggest that you update your user profile for this forum to provide information about the version of PSP that you use, because that is always useful for forum users to determine what steps might be needed to solve issues.

That said, are you writing the script yourself or recording it?

In any event, you can save scripts to any folder you like. In fact, for all user created or user downloaded resources that don't come with the PSP program you should save them in a folder you create yourself rather than in the PSP default folders. That is because if you have to uninstall PSP for some reason and then reinstall it the default resource folders will be uninstalled and you will lose all resources you created or downloaded. So create a separate folder on your data drive and name it something like My Own PSP Files. Create sub-folders named Scripts Trusted and Scripts Restricted to save your scripts in. You can then save any created scripts to those folders. Then add those folders to your Preferences>File Locations>Scripts settings to point PSP to those folders.

I don't have enough information from you but you could be locked out of the folders you mentioned because, for example, of permission issues - i.e., your user profile might not have permission to access those folders directly without admin permission.
