X8 installing 32 & 64 bit?
Am i missing something obvious?
The last version i bought X6 had two installers and you could just install them both. I've installed the x64 version of X8, trial, this has installed some data in the mirror location in C:\Program Files (x86)\....
There is a set up in there, but when i run it it just tries to uninstall the X64 version....

Re: X8 installing 32 & 64 bit?
I think I read somewhere else on this forum that the X8 trial only came out as the 64 version which disappointed some as they could not test their 32 bit compatible plugins.
When you purchase the program you get the 32 and 64 bit installation.
Makes sense in a way as they want new users to test PSP X8 not various plugins. That way people buy the program for what it can do not the extra plugins they accumulate.

Re: X8 installing 32 & 64 bit?
I tend to agree. Part of testing out a program is testing how well it behaves with user created and third party resources that worked with the previous version. The 64-bit version of PSP doesn't play well at all with many older resources/plugins while the 32-bit version does. If all I had to test with was the 64-bit version I wouldn't purchase it because of that issue. But if I could test with both 32 and 64-bit versions then I would consider purchasing when I found out that one of the versions wouldn't cripple many of the resources that I've collected over the years. Poor marketing decision by Corel IMHO, and with no upside. And I speak from almost 25 years of marketing experience.flagpole wrote:Well that is ****ing stupid.

Re: X8 installing 32 & 64 bit?
I have Paint Shop Pro x8. The 64-bit version does have the option to install both 32 and 64 bit versions. I've just gone through this exercise to resolve a few issues. I note from the 64-bit installer that installing both 32- bit and 64 bit versions is the recommended choice. I missed this when I first installed the product, I think, because I was testing a trial version of the product. In my case, I had to do an uninstall and then reinstall.

Re: X8 installing 32 & 64 bit?
If you downloaded the trial version, you'd best use the cleanup tool for X8 to uninstall it, before installing the full version.
The full version will give you the choice, but if you ever want to use an older plugin, just go for the 32-bit.
Corel's own KTP-collection and a few others work fine in the 64-bit, but the majority of older plugins won't.
With the combination install there are files on your system that will clash with the old plugins.
It's a choice you have to make before installing the full version.
Time to let the old stuff go or stick with 32-bit.
I downloaded the trial version and didn't find it that much faster or better in any way than the 32-bit I now work with, having bought the full version.

Re: X8 installing 32 & 64 bit?
The main reason i wanted the 32 bit was because i prefer the TWAIN interface for the scanner than the WIA.
It seems you can download a trial of the 32 bit version. you just can't install it alongside the 64bit one.

Re: X8 installing 32 & 64 bit?
Well, I'm MAD!
What a pain in the arse!
I'm going to uninstall this X8 Pro and reinstall my X5Pro
I've spent ALL day trying to figure out why some but not all PlugIns show up and/or function.
I' can't figure out where to install what and which version to use to utilize which plugins... BAH!
Another example for making things harder on the user, not EASIER!!!
BAH! HUM BUG! .... and it will be a cold day before I leave my X5 version
I like the various plugins I've collected along the way and I buy more all the time....
This is not very good PR on Corel's part...

So why not just install the 32bit version of X8? It will use all of the same plugins that X5 can use.

Re: X8 installing 32 & 64 bit?
FWIW, I have both versions of X8 installed, and haven't had any issues. I have to admit that I rarely will use the 32 bit version. What it appears that you just wanted to rant/vent, didn't really ask for any help. Like was posted, you can just install the 32 bit version, which would be similar to the X5 which is 32 bit only. Just a little puzzled why the post.goldtwh wrote:Well, I'm MAD!

As well you did not need to uninstall the X5 version so could still have used that while testing out the X8 version.
