Using Fuji .MOV in VS X8 - no video
We have a Fuji XP80 camera. Like most current point and shoot cameras it take both still photos and videos. I have downloaded the photos and videos to my Window 7 laptop and they all display/play fine. The videos have the extension ".mov" and are opened and played correctly in Windows Media Player. However when I tried to import them into Video Studio X7, that program would immediately close without warning. I read in this post (http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... ov#p297323) that these videos would play correctly in Video Studio X8 which I had but had not yet installed.
I have installed Video Studio X8 and it will play the sample video from the above reference. However, when I import one of my Fuji .MOV files into Video Studio x8, the file shows on the time line with an all black place holder icon. When I try to play/view the video clip I hear the sound but DO NOT get the associated video.
I have tried installing the Fuji software, but that had no effect. I tried using Windows Live Movie Maker and it has the same problem. Here is an example file (change the extension from MO to MOV: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2fJk- ... sp=sharing
Can anyone offer an idea or solution for this problem?.....RDK
PS...I have no problems importing video from my Nikon DSLR or our Panasonic Lumix...
PPS....I'm running Window 7 Pro and I have installed QuickTime 7. These videos seem to have an odd frame rate: 59 fps?...

Re: Using Fuji .MOV in VS X8 - no video
I have the same problem with that sample file as you. However, using FormatFactory -- as was done in that other thread whose link you posted -- produced a perfect .mp4 which X8 will play and edit. But I have no idea why the original .mov clip will not play the video. I imagine the same would happen if you used another video converter program.
However, what else might have happened to it in the camera to make it unable to be played properly in X8 in its .mov format remains a mystery.
EDIT: I have referred this problem, and another similar one, to Corel. Hopefully they might come up with something. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything from them.
FWIW, 59.94 fps is perfectly correct and normal for a high definition AVCHD NTSC clip -- and while your video calls itself .mov in the extension, it is in reality an AVCHD clip. For the sake of brevity these days, 59.94 fps is usually simply rounded up to 60 fps, just as 29.97 fps is rounded up to 30 fps.PPS....I'm running Window 7 Pro and I have installed QuickTime 7. These videos seem to have an odd frame rate: 59 fps?...

Re: Using Fuji .MOV in VS X8 - no video
Thanks Ken. By the way I have 12 other .MOV clips from that camera which exhibit the same symptoms, so I don't think this is storage or transfer error....RDK
ps...I bought QT Pro and used it to convert the clip to a 30 fps file. That worked...

Corel have advised they can duplicate the problem. They will advise when they have a fix for it.

WOW!!!
Ken, you do good work. Thanks.
I have noted that when I go to "Settings" / "Movie Profile Manager" / "MOV" that I don't see any entries higher than 30 fps. Even though QT, WMP will all play it ok, so they must have access to the right CODEC? ...Rob

I noticed that Corels myDVD (which is installed when you install X8.5) has no problem with that mov file.
It is also accepted in Roxios NXT 3 program.

Hi Rob
Corel replied to Kens request with a hot fix.
I have applied this to my CVSX8 and it appears to work, well done Corel
The fix requires replacing a dll file.
You can download the file and instructions from my One Drive here.

Re: Using Fuji .MOV in VS X8 - no video
Users should note that Corel have indicated that the fix is only aimed at the black video problem and only meant for X8/8.5 and not earlier versions.
