I purchased VideoStudio X8 Ultimate yesterday. When I try to install, I get through the MS C++ redistributable screen. At the second screen, where X8 tries to install DirectX, the install fails. I'm taken to a screen that says the install couldn't be completed and to try again some day. The error code under that message is "-9".
I'm running Win7 64 bit on an Intel i7-4790K CPU and two Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 video cards. Each card has 3 gigs of RAM, and the box has 24 gigs of RAM. I have administrative privileges on the machine and have tried specifically setting run as admin.
The download is not corrupt. The download installed on an older, Win7 64 bit box without incident. This old box and the new box run identical software, ie, CorelDraw 7 suite, ZBrush, Blender, all of the same versions as are currently installed on the failing box.
The failing machine is running DirectX 11 according to the DirectX diagnostic tool. The version of the DirectX 9 dll in the VS cab files was older than the version Nvidia installed a month ago. I uninstalled the Nvidia updates and restarted. I still can't install X8.
I have all MS updates, and until I ripped out the Nvidia updates, I had all the latest updates from them. Any suggestions about where to look next? From what I can see of the software on the old box, it looks very cool. I'd really love to use it on my graphics workstation if only it would install.

Re: Can't install X8: DirectX and Nvidia conflict?
I've never been aware of the installation process of any version of VS trying to install DirectX. MS C++ redistributable, yes; DirectX no. In fact I find it a little strange that it would try to do so when it is a central element of the Windows environment. But maybe I have missed something...
The only thing I can think of to suggest would be for you to create a new Profile/account in Windows, log onto that and try installing VS again. This sometimes works for others. Then if installation is successful, you can delete the new Profile and VS should remain...

Thanks for the quick response!
I tried a new profile and got the same error as before.
As for DirectX being installed, the actual message on the second install screen is "Please wait while we configure DirectX." It is while that message is on the screen that it flips over to the message that the install can't be completed. If you search, you'll find that there are numerous cabs containing various versions of DirectX 9 in the Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8 Setup Files cab files. You can't see them in Windows Explorer, but if you search for d3dx9_*, you'll see the cabs they're in.
What kinds of problems have people experienced with the MS C++ Redistributables, and what did they do to fix them? I did encounter an issue with them when I installed ZBrush, but I got that fixed, and ZBrush works as expected. (It installed but wouldn't run with a very specific error code and message.)
