Error "The file may be write-protected" when MP4 is created

Post by PhysioEmoDynamics »

Hi guys, I am on Windows 7.
I have the same settings for my laptop and Corel Video Studio for ages, but suddenly yesterday when I tried to create an MP4 from VPS project file the system gave me error. It says The file may be write-protected. I then tried to open other files that I previously successfully converted into MP4, and the same error shows up.
What happened?
How do I fix it?
The files for sure are not read-only files, it's just a new VPS created from other edited MP4s.
Where do I change the settings and how?

SOS! :( I can't now user Corel at all.

You seem a little confused - .vsp files are not mp4 files - so is it the .vsp which will not open - or the mp4.

You should be able to open the mp4 regardless of the state of the .vsp file

When you say you cannot use Corel (Videostudio ?) what happens if you just put one of your mp4 in the timeline - it should play

.vsp files are just very small text files - it is unusual for those files to be corrupted - are you sure you have not moved them at all.

How are you trying to open the .vsp files - are you clicking on "File >> opem" and then selecting the vsp file - or something different

I am not confused, my computer is :-)

VPS files are project files, Mp4s are their content among other elements (test, images etc.), and MP4 is also format of output file - final file (created when I click on Share button).

The problem occurs when I am trying to create a final MP4 file from the VPS project.

There are NO mp4's, images, music etc. in a .vsp file - - - it is just text - nothing else

so now your last post says you can open .vsp files - but not make an mp4 with them - not what you said earlier

lets see if some one else understands your problem

Correct, Lata. That's the error...
And it's not just for a specific file...
No matter what VPS I open to create MP4, when I try to create (share), that's the error.
What to do?

Please confirm that you have changed the folder you are directing the finished videos to as suggested by Trevor in his last post above here - and in the previous topic that I directed you to - if necessary create a new temporary folder on your hard drive and then change the bottom drop down on the 'Share' page to show that folder.

Look what Trevor said above - - click on the picture if you want to see it bigger

Just a quick thought to add. If you have renamed a previously used directory (never a good idea) be sure to browse for the new name or this "write-protected" error will occur as well.

Hi

In my case it was not re-naming folders although we get the same error.

I was testing the program rendering videos, when I had finished I simply deleted the folder used for the tests.
The next time I tried to save the “File location” although showing in VS did not exist.
The actual wording of the error is very misleading.
However choosing another save location does the trick.
