MOV files are black now

Post by sgraham »

X8 was handling .mov files fine until I installed the service pack. Now I can add them to the timeline, it sees the length fine but the thumbnail and viewer only show black. is there a quicktime dll library now unavailable? anybody know what is up and a fix?

I went up to Settings | Movie Profile Manager then selected .mov files and reset the profile. that seems to have solved the problem.

I'm having the same problem with my VSx7.

Now when I import a MOV file it shows up black on the VS desktop (work area).
All previous mov files have been created with a Canon Powershot A2500 and show up when imported.
the newly imported mov files were created with a SJCAM sj4000 and show up black (but when played have audio only/no video).

Noting the previous post by sgraham, I went to the movie profile manager to select a format.
There is NO mov file in the directory to select.
ONLY: AVI; Mpeg-2; AVC/H.264; Mpeg-4; and WMV

Do I need some type of patch? This is the first time in many many edit sessions that this has happened.
Am I going to be able to use my new SJCAM sj4000 and edit those videos with my VSproX7 program?
How can I add MOV to the selection in Movie Profile Manager?

Thanks for ANY help with this matter. I'm now a bald headed fellow from pulling my hair out over this issue.
(that's a small fib; I was already bald)

Did you apply service pack 1? go to the update command check if you are unsure. I have not seen the release notes to tell if anything related to having or not having mov pick in dropdown. I'm on 18.5.0.25 build.

Have you installed the latest version of Quicktime on your computer? This is what installs the .mov codec, which is not installed automatically by Video Studio.

I've been editing with VideoStudio X7 for a very long time. I've always been able to import my .mov files (canon powershot2500), and edit them. I bought a new camera (sjcam 4000), which also records in the mov formate. When I import that mov file, it shows up black and when played, only has the audio playing; no video. The program (VSx7) thumbnail is locating the mov file in my directory, but is only able to play the audio only. So I don't understand why one mov file is different than the other mov files I've always been able to import. I went to preferences and noted that the old canon mov files are 25 fps and the new sj4000 mov files are 30 fps. I think that has something to do with the fact that I've always been able to see the mov files that are 25 fps. Now that I have a new camera, I need to be able to view the 30 fps mov files; and I can't find how to do that in any of the VSx7 menu's....

"......Have you installed the latest version of Quicktime on your computer?"

I went to the QTime site and I don't see their update including Windows 8...so, I don't know if I should install this or not?

I have no idea why Apply have not updated that wording. However, 7.7.8 is definitely the most recent free version of QT and works with Win 8, 8.1 and 10. FWIW, I have the Pro version of QT and its version number is 7.7.7. It tells me it is up to date when I check for updates. And it most definitely works in Win 8.1 and 10. So go ahead and install it...

Do you have any file corruption in the source mov file? See if you can watch the full movie in a viewer like vlan player. I have found that when I have the situation you describe I have inadvertently downloaded a file that was still being uploaded to me. You can verify it if the file will not play all the way through.

I don't have any problem playing any of the MOV files I've recorded. All play all the way through in my VLC player.
And, they play once I've imported them into VSx7 as a thumbnail. They play, but the video is black and you hear
the audio all the way through....the MOV files that are recorded at 25 fps I can see and hear, the MOV files that
were recorded at 30 fps are in black but I can hear the audio...

See my explanation in the jpg above....

What are the exact Properties of the new .mov files? I ask since .mov is just a wrapper extension which can be applied to a wide variety of codecs. Please right click on one of the clips in the VS timeline and copy ALL its Properties here, or take a screen grab of the properties box and upload it here as an attachment.

Hi

Video Studio 7 did have some issues with some Mov and Mpeg4 types. Started with video from a GH3 camera.
Corel did provide a Hot fix, several Hot Fixes, I had thought that they had been incorporated with the Service Packs.
I assume you have installed all service Packs for CVSX7

http://howto.corel.com/en/c/Unable_to_i ... ltimate_X7

There is / was a problem downloading the Hotfix from Corel so I have uploaded to my One Drive.
