Upgraded on line from 3.5 to 4.0. Two seperate downloads the "upgrade version" and the "extra content" were enabled after the purchase. I loaded both.
Many of the transitions in "edit slideshow" do not work or crash the program. The "basic" ones seem to work but the ones included in the "extra content" do not. Transition effect : build is OK, but Transition effect clock, F/X, etc. do not. Pan & Zoom single effects work but not the combinations.
Any pointers?
Cheers,
Paul

What more wouild you like to know?heinz-oz wrote:Considering the wealth of information you supplied us with, I'm sure, eventually there will be someone willing to lend a helping hand.
MF3.5 was bundled with an Adaptec VideOH PCI video capture / tuner card and registered with Ulead. I have used it extensively but got tired of the performance when building large projects... hoping for higher performance I purchased the 4.0 upgrade from the Ulead on-line store and downloaded the two files mentioned. MF 4.0 "basic" seemed to work fine. I then loaded the 375MB "extra content" file that contains amongst other things more transition and pan&zoom effects. These successfully showed up in the menus, but cannot be used. Selecting them does nothing and if you save the project or slideshow group with these set and reopen it later, the effects are disabled.
Earlier posts indicate that something similar happens when upgrading from the try before you buy copy and indicates paying for the full version rather than upgrading fixes the problem. But I have a registered fully functional copy that was bundled with the Adaptec card. Rather than spending $100 more, I am hoping to get this fixed - no point to offering upgrades that don't work eh?
I have sent a message to Ulead directly in hopes of getting a resolution and I suspect it's related to the product key.
Enough detail?
Cheers,
Paul

And the answer was...
1. uninstall with manual assistance all MF4 elements (see other threads)
2. re-download both files
3. disable virus and spyware protection
4. install the update file (a new serial # is generated...)
5. do not restart...
6. install the large 375MB "extra content" files
7. restart
8. viola
Thanks to self for figuring this out (pat pat). The new transitions and customization options are worth the upgrade. Performance is a bit better...

pbutler1,
Thankyou for posting that information back to the forum.
The information is very useful. Many people have experienced bad downloads which end up
being defective programs. That's probably why Ulead told you to re-download the installation
files. If you didn't contact ulead you would still be pulling your hair out with a bad installation.
I would burn those 2 latest installation files to a CD and store in a safe place.
Whenever I purchase a program and download it I try to also order the CD.
It's important to read the "README" file with MF4. Additional information in there
for troubleshooting problems.
If you have any packet writing software like "Drag to Disk" or "InCD" then installing the
DATA-ADD may cause problems.
To see if you have packet writing programs that can conflict put a dvd+rw in your burner.
After you close the tray immediately press the "Shift" key down and hold it down until the
system stabilizes. This prevents the windows "AutoLaunch" feature from activating.
Then open up "My Computer" to see all your drives.
Righ-Click on the dvd burner and look at the drop-down choices.
If you loaded Ulead Data-Add it will show up.
Also any other packet writing software will showup such as Nero's "InCD"
If you see 2 packet writing programs after right-clicking on the burner that can cause
burning problems. Use only 1 packet writing program on the computer.
If you don't need packet writing for quick dropping etc then maybe don't install them.
Hope this helps,
MD
