no video capture driver (Ulead VideoStudio 11)

Post by Just Dave »

I recently bought a Canon HV30, and a StarTech 4 Port PCI FireWirecard, which has Ulead VideoStudio 11 included.

When I try to capture video, I get the error "Either no video capture driver is installed in the system, or no device is connected." I hear the Windows connection sound when the camera is plugged in. I'm new to this, and have searched for the last two hours (Not an exaggeration) and would really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Device Manager.

You should see IEEE Bus host controllers. The one you want is "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)" This is the driver you want.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

my 2 cents will be to connect the camera to the pc only with battery and not on mains as it can damage your DV connection.

It is more important to connect the FireWire cable before switching on. Live connecting has been known to blow the camera's circuits.
