Color Grading In X8 - How Does Everyone Else Do it?

Post by herein2015 »

How does everyone else color grade their footage in VS X8? I spend most of my time in post processing working on getting the color to look right, so far I have found no easy way to properly color grade footage within X8. My workflow right now is as follows:

1) Shoot in 4K
2) Color grade and trim clips in DaVinci Resolve
3) Export to 1080P MOV
4) Import to X8. Add titles transitions, opening pics, closing pics etc
5) Export to RAW MOV
6) Import to Handbrake. Convert to final MP4 using Handbrake to adjust bitrate and final resolution

I really wish X8 had scopes like DaVinci Resolve. Even a simple waveform scope would be great. Each step in the workflow takes so long it would be great to be able to do it all in a single program.

So how is everyone else color grading in X8? I have tried the myriad of NewBlue plugins but without scopes I just don't see how anyone accurately color grades their footage to look good on all monitors and TV screens.

You are not going to beat DaVinci Resolve for color grading. For non-professional color grading use the filters. I have used some of the Auto levels and exposure. I have also used saturation. They work but nothing like Resolve. VS does not support LUTs yet (that I'm aware)

I use Cyberlink's "Color Director" for this. Works pretty well.
