VSX8 Rendering Issues

Post by RobertOZ »

I am currently working on a project comprising of over 1000 images with a run time of approx 2 hours, because of the estimated size of the completed project, about 8GB, I split the project into 5 sections, completing and rendering each section.
For rendering I used MOV 1920x1080 30fps for saving to USB and TV playback

The first 3 sections rendered successfully without issue, however the 4th section, run time of about 17 mins. kept crashing, I tried 4 times to render with the crash appearing at different times, 41%, 42%, 67% and 76% so there was no consistency.
The error however was exactly the same for each crash
Corel\Corel Video Studio Ultimate X8\upscaling.dll
Upscale.cpp
Line 615
Expression: Succeeded (1Hr)
See Visual C++ documentation on asserts

So I tried splitting the project at about halfway, then tried rendering again, this time both parts rendered successfully and when joined together you cannot tell that that the 2 parts had been rendered independently.
This indicates that there was nothing wrong with the original 17min. project, so can anyone explain the cause of the crash
Now I only need to complete the 5th section and put it all together

Hi Robert
Sorry I have not heard of that error message before.
I assume all project properties are the same for all projects.
If you now try rendering the 4th section again, I assume it still crashes each time.
Upscaling seems to indicate increasing sizes usually a video unscaled to play on HD tv.
So is it referring to increasing the image size.

Are all 1000 images the same size, as in resolution, width x height in pixels.
Otherwise are you able to create a Smart Package of the 4th section so we can test?

I will be away over the coming weekend so may not reply till Monday?

Hi Trevor,
I am creating this video for a friend just back from Canada & USA who has no idea on our to make an interesting presentation of the trip

Unfortunately, he had his camera settings wrong, so all images are 4:3 aspect, 3648x2736 res. 300 dpi with a bit depth of 24, so I had to use fit project size to obtain a widescreen format.
Originally, I had the whole project in the timeline, but found it was becoming unmanageable, so I just kept splitting the project into sections and saving each section with a new name so project settings for each section should remain the same.
I selected MOV 1920x1080 30fps as the rendering format, because I know this will play on his TV

Smart package VSP file attached in zip file

Thanks for looking

Are we supposed to see anything since all that seems to be in the zip file is the vsp project file. That is not the SmartPackage

Robert, why you didn't batch resized the photos before you started this mega saga?

Having had issues with batch resize in the past, I really did not give it a thought, certainly will use it for the final section of the project

Canuck,
Whilst I have uploaded the Smart Package to Dropbox, I need to obtain the permission of the owner of the images to share them, I am sure that Trevor normally only requires the .vsp file, because that still shows how the project was constructed

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error still occurring in Videostudio 2019. This crash issue is caused by an incompatible object to the output settings. This could entail a placed video or image or the actual project size. Upscale.cpp is the culprit. This was not an issue with older versions of Videostudio...

Solution: Ensure that both the project size and any placed media are all the same resolution/format for output.
Issue: Rendering 1280x720 to 1920x1080 may cause crash, as will other formats.
