x4 vs Newest editiopn

Post by Mykall23 »

Hello My name is Michael and I have an old copy purchased a few years ago of VS pro x4. I got it when I thought I may be interested in making videos. But I never did. Now I am recently retired and want to give it a go. I know my computer is old and not very quick - like me. However it will have to do. I have learned much by viewing this forum on a daily basis and by watching numerous YouTube videos mostly by Gripps. I like VS and can do the basic functions just fine. I am interested in the latest version due to the Screen Capture function which my x4 version lacks. I would like to know your opinion of the rendering speed of x8 vs x4. I have an old AMD A8-3850 apu running at 2.8 gigs with a 500 gig SS drive, a 500 gig 7200rpm drive, a EVGA 750 Ti video card all running on windows 7 64 bit. I downloaded the trial and it is almost a joke how much has been left out of the trial. However it is what it is and the full version certainly appears to be all that most, certainly me, will ever need. In that most of you have been users for many years and have used many versions do tou find that x8.5 is different than x4 in rendering speed? Would it require more horsepower than x4 to get the job done? My computer is not a beast and so rendering speed is my primary concern. Thank you for your time and opinions.

It's all in the complex videos you do and the output you need. If you have X4 and it works OK on your system and you don't need any of the new addons (there are few free screen capture stuff out there), than you better wait for a better deal on X8 or maybe to X9 next year. Rendering is not lightning fast in X8 vs X4.
The major evolution from X4 to X8 is motion tracking and better keys/overlay options, (in 8.5 it's NBtitlerEx)
